Hi Im trying to connect to the gnutella P2P community on my computer while I'm down at school (VCU). The LAN network down here doesn't allow gnutella connection most times so I connect my computer via dial-up . Heres my question can I connect to gnutella with my dial-up account/modem but use the speed of of my schools network to download?

The logic doesn't quite match. Dial up uses the telephone line right. Ethernet, well ... thru your school which will use something dramatic whatever it is. For a dial up modem you need to be using a dial up service thru your isp. Also your modem is designed for 56kbps (approx 7KB?s max speed.) YOu can try it but I have my doubts. You should try connecting thru their ethernet if it's allowed. Either that or buy yourself a service. Be it dial up or broadband, etc.

You'll notice your comp has both an ethernet card & connection & a dial up connection at the back. Notice the difference?

yes I am aware of the difference between the two.
Currently I have both plug-in and connected. I'm able to connect to limewire gnutella. But I don't know which one is my connection speed, 56k 0r LAN ? I suspect that its both. In any case I want to use the speed of the LAN connection to connect to gnutella, eventhough the gnutella seem to be connect via 56k. Is it even possible?

If you can get connected via either than hooray. If you have the choice then choose the higher speed if you find you can achieve those speeds. Otherwise switch it back to the slower setting otherwise you may have difficulty in overall control. Experiment with it. Whichever works best, use it!
