Can you give us a total desciption of your set up: 1. OS version, 2. What firewalls you have, 3. ram, 4. HDD space available, 5. Connection type, 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers, 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is. |
i have windows xp with 512k ram an 80gig and 120 gig hard drive a netgear wgr614v5 router a com 21 cable modem. i tried the removing limewire from documents and letting my computer sit for an hour i use it at home and until a week ago limewire worked great.i thought it may be the router but i hooked my computer up directly to the modem still no search results i tried uninstalling reinstalling disableing the firewalls on my router and my computer and still nothing.any help at all would be greatly appreciated if there is an alternate way to connect something i can reprogram anything please help. thank you |
One thing that certainly will help is if you forward a port on your modem/router. Are you willing to do it? I'll give you the instructions: 1. You will need to set up a Static ip for this to work!. Instructions are in a brown link on the 1st line of the following link. 2. Netgear WGR614 for port forwarding via Web Interface & use Port 6346. 3. Within LW Force IP: Force IP instructions & sample image 4. Rather than go unprotected without any firewall. It would be best to configure it to allow LW full access: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml See how you go. Oh by the way your modem has an internal NAT firewall. That's why I'd recommend forwarding a port. If you were playing net games or video conferencing you'd need to open many ports. But for LW it's only one! |
still no results I opened the ports in my router and on xp in my computer but i still get no search results.anything you can do to help will be great.thank you. |
From this point I have 3 ideas. Good, bad or ugly! :p lol :D Try these one by one: 1. Fixes for Limewire 2. LW Beta 4.3.3 (Click on link) which has overcome some major issues of late. 3. Try an older version of LW OR even older still here. |
still no results i've tried all the things you suggested still no results if you can think of anything else please tell me.thank you. |
