Blank Screens When Loading

I've had LimeWire Pro for a while now and it's worked perfectly....Until a few days ago when I tried to open it, it loads these blank screens and it just sorta freezes. I've contacted LimeWire Pro Support who told me to uninstall my LimeWire and Java and then reinstall, which I did, but it does the exact same thing after all that. Any Ideas?????????

I'm trying to upload a picture of what my screen looks like when I load LimeWire. Hope it works.

In my experience that is caused by (1) Java & possibly (2) RAM.

Which version of LW & Java do you have?

Try this: Fixes for Limewire (If you're using LW 4.4 then some of these suggestions won't apply.) Make sure LW is closed before trying the suggestions.

Thanks for responding. My LimeWire version is 4.4.1 and my Java is 1.5.0

I've tried that Fixes page before and nothing seems to work and this is getting really frustrating.

Okay out of desperation I uninstalled my LW and Java, restarted my computer and then re-installed them. After a couple times of trying to open LW it finally got to the main screen as shown below but it's completely frozen, can't click anywhere and the cursor in the search box doesn't blink like it should be. I'm running out of ideas here... how about you guys? Thanks.

Just a thought LotR asked how much RAM you had, and when was the last time you did any system maintence. It might help to defrag your hard drive.

I had similar problems with other programs (games mainly), because I didn't have enough RAM, until I upgraded it.

I have 1gig of RAM however I just did that WinXP Defrag Analysis and it said I should defrag my comp so I'll try that and report back

I shouldn't make suggestions before you get back but ... if you're still having problems after defragging & a system checkover, then try another version of Java or LW. Uninstall Java 1.5 & instead use Java version 1.4.x Sometimes Java 1.5 doesn't behave very well on some people's systems. If that still doesn't work then I'd suggest the beta 4.3.4 which is not so different to LW 4.4 but it has solved a few people's problems: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/beta.shtml

The defrag didn't help so I tried what you said LOTR and still nothing, I'm on Java 1.4.x and tried that beta LW and it's still blank when I try to load it. I also noticed when I loaded that Java Application thing, it was blank as well just like my LW. Does that mean anything?

Do you use a screensaver? If yes, at least for now temporarily disable it & try LW again.

Do you play advanced games? I have heard of issues with directx.

I don't use a screensaver and yes I play games as you can see from my desktop :) but they all work fine and I have had LW since getting them and it worked... I just tried it again and it WORKED so I closed it and then tried to open it again and blank screens. I kept trying LW and I could probably get it to open and function right about 1 out of 5 times. Does this sound as weird to you as it does to me?

Yea I think it's the Ghost in the Machine kinda thing happening here ;) and my video card is updated... this really sucks but at least now I can get it to work if I keep at it opening and closing and opening and closing....
:D
Thanks for trying to help me though guys I appreciate it very much

My LimeWire is doing it again!!!!!!! I just updated to the 4.6 version and I can't get it to open. It does the exact same thing as before.

Lord of the Rings February 24th, 2005 12:55 PM

Just a thought (this has worked for many b/c for some reason one version of Java works better than another.) Install Java 1.4.2 instead: Sun 1.4.2: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html (Choose the JRE) See if this makes any difference. ;)

Chris8283 February 28th, 2005 09:57 AM

Hello again. That seemed to have worked although it seems tempermental. Most times it will work but every now and then it gives me trouble. I don't understand it but thank you for helping.

Lord of the Rings February 28th, 2005 10:44 AM

I wonder if it's your graphics card. See: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=34408 & if you've played games have you changed any settings. These 2 things have resulted in other people having this issue (not to mention Java.)

Chris8283 February 28th, 2005 06:38 PM

Thanks for the suggestion. The exact same thing that happened to that guy happened to mine too so I'll try to update my video card drivers.
