DirectConnet Problem Please Help Im using limewire pro for winxp,I can use the direct connect feature to connect to other people, but they cannot connect to me.I use zone alarm security suite and i think it has something to do with that,im also on a router can anyone help? |
After LW's been on for at least 30 mins do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image Is it True/False? If it's false then there's a firewall somewhere blocking incoming. Double-check your firewall settings here: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml Can you tell us your Modem & router brand name & model numbers? It apparently makes it easier to DC if you both have Chat enabled. Tools>Options>Chat |
my modem is the speedstream 5200 and router is smc 7004VBR its weird because i can direct connect to my friend but they cant connect to me ? |
Both your modem & router have internal firewalls. So now wonder. You should forward a port for both. 1. Instructions for port forwarding for you modem see: http://www.portforward.com/efficient/5200.htm for instructions on both setting up a static ip & forwarding a port; Port 6346 You must set up a static ip 1st. On the link I gave you'll see a link to static ip for Speedstream. At the bottom of the following page you'll see another link for setting up static ip. You need to follow thru both of those instructions for setting up the static ip. Then do the port forwarding. 2. Your router also needs it. See http://www.portforward.com/smc/7004v...forwarding.htm 3. If you're using a lesser version than 4.4 then you will need to force ip within LW: Force IP instructions & sample image If you are using LW 4.4 tell us. Get back to us about how things go. |
Im using 4.2.6 Pro and going to try to change those settings right now thanks. |
the ip address 192.168.254.254 is not working i cannot connect? |
Read thru the instuctions again very carefully. Generally if mistakes are made, they are made with the setting up of the static ip. So take it step by step. With some modems, you need to re-boot the modem after you make changes such as forwarding a port. I don't know about your brand though. You'd probably be aware of something like that (or it's in your manual for your modem.) |
Thanks for all the help I got it to work, I have 1 other question now, Limewire has me as an ultrapeer and in my connection tab its filled up with others, how does this effect my down/up load speeds ??? |
I'm not the one to ask about UP. Perhaps you could follow this: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=27036 |
