4.8.0 version - can no longer turbo We just upgraded to 4.6 this weekend and have always been turbo charged. This evening, we can't get past the first stack for connection. I've checked our firewall settings, I updated our java, I've uninstalled and reinstalled. Any info would be helpful and appreciated. Thanks! |
The turbo engine ran out of blue ink! lol :D No, seriously, try deleting your LW preferences folder; instructions are here: Fixes for Limewire |
Did that first and still no response. |
Hmmm just a thought. Tools>Options>Speed>Disable Ultrapeer Capabilities--- check the box --- click apply then okay Then File>Disconnect Then File>Connect Don't forget also it takes LimeWire some time to stabilize, especially if you have d/l and u/l going on while you try and connect to the network. It may take as long as 30 - 45 minutes sometimes. |
still nothing. same problem. Is there a way to go back to the other version? This problem did not show up until we upgraded to 4.6/4.8. Thanks for your help. |
Are you using LimeWire PRO? |
yes. the version we are having all the problems with is the LimeWire Pro. |
Try this: 1. before you open LW, go to the incomplete folder & list it in file size. Now delete all files that are zero in size. Then open LW, go to downlds window & click on top of Progress bar column. That will arrange them all by size. Now select all those that are 0% (ie: select the 1st one then holding SHIFT key scroll down until the last one & select it.) Then press Stop button. This will clear a lot of unnecessary loading of incomplete files that may be making LW struggle to get started quickly. 2. Do not use the Resume button to get all your downlds to continue after opening LW. This will make LW struggle & can affect LW's connection quality. Even for LW Pro. Some hints that will help generally for using LW & obtaining good results: A well set-up LW can start to automatically continue its dwnlding after it's settled down perhaps 2 out of 3 times you open LW. Optimising LW & Maximising Uplds & Dwnlds A (1st post only) & also Part B which is even better & last & least are search & dwnld hints. The latter one I've been thinking about re-writing for some time. That's just for playing it safe. eg- I show all speeds & qualities. eg: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...028#post116028 |
Did everything stated and still cannot get past first stack on bottom. The quality is stated as 'connecting'. We have windows xp and updated to the 4.6.0 (which I think is now 4.8.0) this past weekend. We've used limewire for awhile and just ran out of our six month subscription so paid the additional 14.50 to upgrade. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, followed all directions and now am not getting anywhere. The feedback and help is greatly appreciated - unfortunately, it's not moving us past that first stack. |
Can you give us a total desciption of your set up: 1. What firewalls you have? 2. ram? 3. HDD space available? 4. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) 5. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? 6. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? 7. What version of Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) 8. Who is your ISP provider? Very mysterious that it's suddenly stopped like this. I wonder if your ISP has coincidently applied a filter of some sort. I'm just wondering if it might be worth changing your Java. This is purely a stab in the dark but it might trigger something. If you have Java 1.5 then go back to 1.4.2 or vice-versa. Sun 1.4.2: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html (Choose the JRE) OR Java 1.5 (take the JRE) Are there any other programs you've installed lately or updates? Another thought is to do a system maintenance & check your system over & defragment your HDD. |
