Having Problems

I recently had to reinstall my operating system (MS XP) and lost everthing, including my LimeWire. Now I've reinstalled LimeWire and I cannot get it to work. Of course I cannot figure out why.

I have everything configured the same way and I've followed the instructions in the support section of the LimeWire website to ensure my ports are configured correctly and that a firewall is not blocking my access.

My problem is not that I am unable connect to the network, it is that when I double click on the desktop icon for LimeWire, I see an hourglass for like 2 seconds and then it disappears and nothing happens. It returns to the pointer arrow and my computer sits idle as if I hand't asked it to do anything at all. The progam will not even open to try to connect and I don't know what is supressing it.

I am very frustrated and am at the end of my rope. I miss my LimeWire. :( If anybody could be of any assistance to me at all, I would greatly appreciate it!

Program will not launch

I greatly appreciate your help. I went through each of the steps you recommended and performed the mentioned actions. I am still having trouble with the program. It still will not even launch. Are there any other settings I can check/change?

Hmm doesn't sound good. Can yo ugive us a complete description of your system set-up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. ram?
4. HDD space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...)

In the meantime could you try re-installing LW. Download the installer & SAVE to your computer. Then install it. Delete the preferences folder again before you install it

In reply to your inquiries: ...

1. OS version? Windows XP Professional
2. What firewalls you have? McAfee AntiVirus and Firewall (followed the instructions from them on configuring firewall for LimeWire).
3. ram? 512 MB I think
4. HDD space available? Plenty...It's a 80GB hard drive and all I have on it is my reinstalled operating system, mcafee, and LimeWire really.
5. Connection type? DSL (Yahoo DSL via SBC)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
Modem: Speedstream 5100
Router: Linksys WRT54G
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? Home
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) The version of LimeWire I have is the most current one available from www.limewire.com, version 4.6.0

I tried re-downloading LimeWire, saving it to my computer and reinstalling, but that did not work either.

I don't know what else to do. I'm ready to pull my hair out. Your help thus far has been greatly appreciated.
