Limewire won't stay open Ok, I need help! Here's the problem... I open Limewire, and everything is fine. It opens up, and at the bottom, you see it trying to connect, then when it's running the DAAP stuff, it shuts down. What am I doing wrong? Maralicia P.S. Thanks for the help in advance! Clarification: I'm running Windows XP, I've tried deleting Limewire completely, and the .limewire as well, rebooted my computer, then redownloaded it again. It's trying to load a thing called digital audio access p-somthing...and that's when it goes off... Maralicia |
Perhaps you should experiment with changing the DAAP settings. Use compatibility mode or vice versa. If you can't get that far then delete LW's preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Fixes for Limewire |
how do I change or mess with the daap settings? Maralicia |
Under LW's menu Tools>Options>iTunes>Sharing & press Apply button to make changes immediate. Are you using iTunes? If yes, it might be an idea to keep it closed until after you've opened LW. |
Lord, That's the whole problem....LW will try and run, it'll say it's uploading stuff, then right when it's trying to upload the Digital Audio Access Protocol it shuts down. it gives me no chance to do anything to it. Mara |
Sneeze, Sneeze, Cough ah excuse me. When was the last time you ran an anti-virus check. Here is link to a free security and anti-virus check. http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/h...nt=true&bhcp=1 |
Ok, I deleted LW again... Did the Virus scan, nothing there. Reloaded LW, and same thing. LW opens, I see the homepage, but as soon as "Loading Digital Audio Access Protocol" starts on the bottom, it automatically shuts down. Any more suggestions? Maralicia |
Do you use iTunes? |
Yes, I use iTunes... Maralicia |
Disable daap in iTunes, then open LW. ie: Go to iTunes menu Edit>Preferences>Sharing & untick both options for sharing. Or at least untick the 2nd one for Share my Music. I believe this will do the trick. |
nope....no such luck  |
Are you networked with any other computers? Do you have firewalls enacted? If so, which ones? Have you configured them for LW's access. DAAP will try to find any other computer connected on a lan. And iTunes also has a daap file sharing capability where you can access other people's playlists. So this request is being sent out of your computer & it might be getting snagged by your firewall(s) & even anti-virus/spyware, etc. Which version of Java do you have? The only alternative I can think of is to try an earlier version. http://www9.limewire.com:82/download/ |
Lord, Thanks for all your help. I've tried everything (except for the older version, since I wasn't sure what to download), but I put Limewire on all the "safe" lists and took off my firewalls, deleted all traces of LW then tried again....so, I give up. Thanks again. maralicia |
oh, and I downloaded one of the Java links I found in an earlier post that had problems too. Maralicia |
