Just bought a brand new computer, subscribed to Limewire, downloaded

some music yesterday, but now when I search for anything at all I get the message "Limewire is currently connecting to the network. Your search may not return many results until you are fully connected to the network" Why? And a bunch of the songs I requested yesterday are coming up "need more sources"

I am very new at this and don't really understand very much about computers. All I want is to download music and movies.

I have Windows XP

There is no subscription for LW! See http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...751&perpage=15

Configure your firewalls for LW, see: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

Also please read this: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/announ...?s=&forumid=29

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. ram?
4. HDD space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...)
These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is.

connection problem

Until yesterday I was running Windows 98, Limewire was running great and had never had a problem with it. I just got Windows XP SP2 (same hardware, though) and it's all turned to ****.
Strange thing is, it was working earlier on, and now it's suddenly not connecting.

So

OS Version: Windows XP SP2

Firewalls: None that I know of. I turned Windows firewall off, I have Norton Antivirus, but not Internet Security. I have Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta1, I'm not sure if that even has a firewall but I disabled it anyway.

RAM: 512MB

HDD Space Available: 22.3GB

Connection Type: 56k

Location: Home

Versions:
LimeWire 4.8.1 PRO
Java 1.5.0_02

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Keep in mind XP has its own firewall. See the link 2nd from top of my 1st post about configuring it to allow LW full access (even if you did disable it!) Delete your LW preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Fixes for Limewire

Now go to LW's menu Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls & make sure UPnP is ticked. This will 'hopefully' overcome SP2 issues.

Note the MS Antispyware I think has been updated. Previously it detected LW as being or containing spyware. It may have done damage to LW. So make sure it's the most up-to-date version.

When you open LW give it some time to connect. If it doesn't connect after 20 mins, go to Tools>Options>Connections & untick option for Connect on startup & press the Apply button. Then go to LW's menu File>Disconnect. Wait a minute. Then File>Connect. Wait some time to see how it goes.

If it still fails, try re-installing Java. Link in above link on fixes for LW. If still doesn't work after this get back to us.

thanks

in my frustration last night, and after trying everything people have suggested on this site, i simply reset LimeWire settings to default and it's working fine now. I think what happened was I installed LimeWire before MSAntiSpyware so didn't give it the chance to prompt me to allow or block LimeWire.
After writing this post I'll check for an update to MSAntiSpyware, I assume you mean a software update as I have the most up-to-date definitions.
Thanks for your help LOTR :)

I have the same problem

I CAN"T connect and it's saying the same thing help me too please!@!!!

et voilà March 17th, 2005 03:26 PM

Ariel: it seems your are on a .edu connection (university?). The network admin probably blocked P2P connections on that network (if I were one, I would do that too) . Try to connect at home.

Ciao

The problem is that i am at home. But i get my internet through the school. But i've always been connected to the school for like the past 4 years and i've had a player before.

my system is window xp
I have mcAfee but i already allowed full acess
i know i have 56 hard-drive
and an internal modem in my Ispiron 1150 from dell
I don't know too much about it cause it was a present and it was new
I downloaded 4.8.1 of limwire and am currently downloading
the java 5.0 but it's taking forever
School is dialup connection.

DO i have any hope of ever getting connected cause i had to pay to get the download.... and i'm justs getting frusterated cause i really want to get this to work

Lord of the Rings March 18th, 2005 02:18 AM

It's only a dial up service?! Gee I'm surprised the school would bother blocking that then for p2p.

Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say ‘Test Page was a Success’. What happens when you go there?
