LW transmitting email? I was just downloading like normal with no problems when Zonealarm pops up telling me that Limewire is trying to transmit email and do I want to permit this. And while trying to determine why all my transfers go to 0.00kb/s and the connection bit the dust as well TILL I granted it permission to transmit email. So what is Limewire emailing anyway? This sounds like a security issue to me if I ever heard one. |
Have a look in the LW beta section of the forum. There's a post that might be related. Apparently there's an update coming out on Monday. I've never heard of LW doing anything like that before. DO you have a decent anti-virus program with updated definitions? Do you have spyware, etc. Check these out: ad-ware http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ (FREE) Spybot - Search & Destroy http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html (FREE) Peerguardian: http://peerguardian.methlabs.org/pg2.html (FREE) |
This is a very well known problem with zonealarm 5.0. See http://forums.shareaza.com/showthrea...threadid=16410 about why ZA sucks. Stick with ZA version 4 or get another real free firewall like: Sygate Personal Firewall Kerio Personal Firewall People should really begin to look at antispyare/antivirus/firewall companies before complaining about LW, and here I'm talking about all the previous lame posts and not particularly from Morb. I'm an avid user of Spybot, Ad-Aware, AVG Antivirus & Zone Alarm Pro. Considering I wiped my hard drive not even a week ago and I scan every file i download for viruses before I do anything with them would suggest that's not the issue here. I haven't configured LW to use any different port. It's set at 6346 not 25. ET, perhaps you would like to explain this bug in Zone Alarm Pro? There's no reason to indirectly insult peope, et. Q: Zone Alarm: Shareaza is trying to send mail or ebay password A:The warning is a known bug in Zone Alarm. (SMTP) mail customarily uses port 25. In fact, particular services using particular port numbers is an arbitrary convention. Whenever a program tries to use port 25, ZA thinks it is trying to send mail. Some p2p users set their programs (Shareaza, BearShare, whatever) to use port 25, to sneak around LAN firewalls on their end. Whenever Shareaza tries to communicate with these people (e.g. send a search hit), ZA freaks out. |
