Lime Wire disconnects my broadband!

Lime Wire starts up fine, it connects straight away and it then searches and downloads fine, but after about 5-10 minutes my internet connection disappears, Lime Wire comes up with a message saying there appears to be no internet connection and to check my firewall settings or internet connection. AOL will then not reconnect unless I restart the computer!
I have tried turning off Norton completely, i've reinstalled Lime Wire 4.8.1, i've used spyware searchers to clear out any spyware but it still does it! Please can someone help me?
My system details:-
OS - Windows xp home
Firewalls - Norton and windows are both turned off
Ram - 512ddr
Connection - 2mb AOL broadband
Modem - BT Voyager 100
HDD free space - 10 gig

I've heard of lots of AOL problems. All with the same symptoms. What it sounds like is you're rushing into things. LW needs time to settle. After opening, leave it for 20 or more mins. Then do your searching. Also don't use the Resume button on all your files or this will have the side-fx of stealing all LW's & your computer's resources & perhaps your connection too.

Some hints: A well set-up LW can start to automatically continue its dwnlding after it's settled down perhaps 2 out of 3 times you open LW. Optimising LW & Maximising Uplds & Dwnlds A (1st post only) & also Part B which is even better & last & least are search & dwnld hints. The latter one I've been thinking about re-writing for some time. That's just for playing it safe. eg- I show all speeds & qualities.

I have tried all you suggested but its made no difference.

Have also tried using my dial up connection and it still happens so that rules out AOL being the problem!

Any other suggestions?

Go to LW's Tools>Options>Connections & untick Connect on start up & press Apply. Then close LW. Then re-open. Leave it for 15 to 20 mins. Then go to LW's menu File>Connect. Leave it for another 15 mins. See how it is then.

Also, under Speed>disable Ultrappeer cap.
Reduce Uploads to at least 70% or less.

(By the way AOL can also be dial up. It's the same service.)

What is your speed by the way? Test it here: http://www.adslguide.org.uk/tools/speedtest.asp

I am now trying what you suggested and something strange is happening, things are downloading even though LW is disconnected?!

And now it has just done its usual disconnecting me!

P.S. My dial up connection is wanadoo & not AOL!

Also my broadband speed is 2mbit adsl

Hate to say it but Timeeaston is right on the money. There are various times when I get up in the morn and a popup is sitting there saying I appear to have no internet connection. I am on Roadrunner broadband, no AOL, no spyware/adware, I use Mozilla Firefox as a browser, no screensaver, 768 mb RAM, Optioned my butt off until I can rewrite the options menu from memory, scandisked, defragged, regedited, deleted, peerguardianed, unpeerguardianed, firewall on/off/on,Zonealarm deleted. windows firewall only, that off, ports opened, router reconfigured, firmware updated, let it settle, AND STILL NO JOY. I must shutdown and restart my computer to reestablish internet connection. Still, I will not complain too much cause I love my 3 kb/s connectin with LimeWire though I have downlowned from others at 1700+.
Yes, I deleted .limewire, updated java, reinstalled LimeWire Pro after uninstalling it.
I have a second computer on my network that also uses Limewire but is not connected to Limewire at night and it retains connectivity to the net.
