says not connected to click coinnect but it's grayed out
 

OK, I am a fairly new computer user. I recently downloaded LW then immediately contracted a virus and had to totally wipe out my computer and start over. Before this LW worked fine. I wasn't using any virus protection at the time.
Now, I have AVG, a spyware blocker and an adware blocker. Could these be causin the problem? I can connect to LW but it says I'm not connected, to click the file menu and click on connect. Well, connect is grayed out and disconnect is the only choice available.
Like I said, I'm new at computers but I'll give you as much info as I can.
I think I have Pentium 3
I use Dial up which worked fine before the virus
I run windows 98 se
