Default Connecting home from work - IP is red

Hi there.

I have recently port-forwarded my home router to forward port 6346 to my personal computer.

Today, I did a direct connection from my work computer to my home computer, by searching for my home IP. I get a list of all my things from home, but my IP comes up red under the "Location" category - and I am unable to download my files (I get a "Need more sources error").

I was wondering if someone could tell me what's not configured properly? Is it my firewall settings? Is it my port-forwarding? (wrong port maybe?)

Someone please help me out.

Thanks,
AInTeL

Each machine must be able to accept incoming connections, so one of them is still blocked on port 6346. Sounds like the work machine, since most work places block ports for good security reasons.

If you can accept incoming, the IP and port number will be shown just about the Direct Connect box. You can also look in the Options at the Bug report section, and scroll through the example to see if you can find the line "Accept Incoming this session=TRUE (or false).

Default Not work computer

The work computer is completely in my control. It's a small business with no security and blocking. I use the same firewall as at home, but I disabled it without any progress.

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Your ISP Provider?

Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say ‘Test Page was a Success’. What happens when you go there?

Do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image

The Bug Report test would also be handy for both computers.

For Zone Alarm (& XP firewall) configuration to allow LW full access see: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

By the way the red in your DC search results shows that you are firewalled at home by the looks of things. But then you might be firewalled at work. If you are firewalled your ip address will not show on LW when you select the direct connect search type.

See: How to Direct Connect, Browse & Chat

. . . and update the home machine: there were some potential vulnerabilities reported with LW 4's that are patched in LW 4.8.1
