Connecting Through an LAN internet connection to limewire

I am trying to connect to the network through an LAN connection, but I dont see the option of that in the limewire configuring thing. I have tried to connect to the network without my LAN connection, and it doesnt work. My browser is compuserve, and I am using a dial up connection, through the LAN.

I'm not sure if im just stupid, or know nothing about the insternet. Probably both. Dear God, I am such a n00b

A Local Area Network usually means several computers to each other, like the typical home network.

LW will find other LW's running on that network automatically (search results show as blue stars).

Wide Area Networks (WAN) are like all the cable subscribers in a particular neighbourhood, who are then connected to one of the CableCo's servers.

I have a home LAN, which connects to the cablemodem, which is on a WAN, which then connects to the larger Internet.

Easy to understand? Ha! I wish.

I don't know how your LAN at home connects to throught the dial-up modem. Can more than one computer in your house get email at the same time through the dial-up connection?

I use AIM, and I couldnt connect well until I checked a box in the sign on/sign off that said I connect to the insternet through an LAN. But I have dial up, I know that because my computer dials up! I don't know whats going on.

A couple other insteresting things is that I connect, and then go to the control panel, then network connections, and they are all disconnected, even the modem, and the WAN (which you mentioned). Internet explorer also doesn't work. AAAH I'M SCREWED UP!

Only One person can be online at a time, and it ties up the phone. just to answer your question

Hi Whozzat

Sounds like using any filesharing program will be very difficult with your set-up, especially since you wouldn't want to tie up the phone lines.

Call/ask around and see what Internet Service Providers (ISP's) are in your area. You can get "always on" service at pretty reasonable monthy rates.

See if http://www.broadbandreports.com/town can help find you a decent ISP that alllows file sharing.

Cheers

Yeah, but I'm already paying for mine, I don't want two. Is there any way besides that? I'm getting broadband in a few months so I guess I can wait...
