"unable to set up a port..." 1 Attachment(s) hey, im having a very annoying problem. When ever i start up Limewire i get the message "Limewire was unable to set up a port to listen for incoming connections. Some features of Limewire may not work as expected." (see attachment for screen shot of message) ive tried a whole bunch things to sort it out i.e deleting all the preferences, changing firewall settings... any other ideas to remedy this prob would be great, thanks. |
Configure your firewalls with these directions: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say ‘Test Page was a Success’. What happens when you go there? Can you give us a total desciption of your set up: 1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) 2. What firewalls you have? 3. ram? 4. Hard Disk space available? 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? 8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 9. Who is your ISP Provider? 10. Is this the 1st time you've used LW or is this an update & a new problem? |
test page is succesful. 1. xp 2. windows and mcafee 3. 512mb 4. 15 gigs 5. ADSL (1.1mbps) 6. Zoom PPP DSL, model 5510 7. home 8. Limewire 4.8.1 Java 1.5.0_01 9. BT 10. this is a new prob for limwire on this computer. I know (at least think know) that its not the modem, ISP and firewall as i have no prob with limewire at all on my computer down stairs (these comps arent on a network) and that works fine! |
So your 2 computers are not networked. Do they run thru the same modem/router. Are you sure Zoom recognises UPnP technology. You could try forwarding a port for the comp you're having problems with: http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm If you do the steps are 1. Set up a static ip 2. Forward a port (port 6346): http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm 3. Manual port forward within LW: Manual port forward instructions & sample image & 2 posts after that. I can't see any other reason at present that you should be firewalled. And yes your Zoom does use an internal NAT firewall. Running 2 should be ok if it recognises UPnP ... I know there was an issue with running UPnP on a lan & I still don't know if this has been fixed yet. So you can run one as UPnP & the other as manual port forward I guess. Try it & see if it makes any difference. |
i dont know if this would effect it or not. But we use the same modem for each computer (disconnect it and connect it to the other comp when needed). but if that were the case, then why would it still be running on one comp and not the other. |
