My entire DSL disconnects when I run Limewire...details inside

Alright, so, this has never happened before. I've used Kazaa Lite up until now, and since I have DSL, I have NEVER been disconnected before other than manually shutting off the modem/unplugging it. Now, suddenly, I downloaded Limewire, ran it, and my connection to the internet stops working. This goes for both my computer upstairs and the computer downstairs as well. With DSL, I thought that wasn't supposed to happen? The only solution to this is to shut off the modem downstairs, wait, then reconnect it and restart my computer. But then, I'll run Limewire again and bam, my internet suddenly disconnects completely again. Sometimes Limewire will run for hours without doing this, sometimes it will do this on startup, sometimes it will do this after a few minutes. Now, my question to you is, why is it doing this, and, how can it be fixed? As for my computer details, here are some, and if anyone needs to know more, ask and I'll tell.

-My OS is Windows 98
-I have DSL connection through this modem/router thing: http://www.dqusa.com/products/product_200ES.asp
-I'm trying to connect from my home.
-It's Limewire 4.8.1, Java 1.5.0_02
-My ISP is pivot.net
-I do not know if I have a firewall or not. How do I find this out?

Again, if anyone needs to know anything else, I'd be happy to tell.

How much ram do you have?
How much available HDD space?
Roughly how many incomplete files?
Do you use the Resume or Find Sources button on these files & if yes how many at one time?

When you open LW it's best to leave it 10, 20 or 30 mins before using it to allow it to settle down.

1. 255MB of RAM
2. Sorry, I'm stupid. HDD Space? I think you mean right clicking on C: and choosing properties, and it says 44.5GB used space, 14.1GB free space. Tell me if that's not right, though.
3. Incomplete files in the folder called "Incomplete" on my desktop, or incomplete files in the download menu itself? There are 90 in the Incomplete folder, and 11 in the download menu inside Limewire.
4. Yes, I do, and I do about 2-4 at a time.

Everything you told me sounds good (perhaps more ram.)
Some hints:
Go to LW's Tools>Options>Speed & tick disable Ultrapeer Cap. & press apply button.
Set both uplds & downlds to autoclear.
Close all LW windows you don't need open at that time.
Reduce uplds to about 70-80% or more. Reduce downlds to 80 or 90%.
Whilst LW is open, click on top of the Progress bar so all incomplete files are organised by % downlded. Then select 1st at 0% & scroll down to last & select it whilst holding down SHIFT key also all at 0% are selected, then pres the Stop button. Then go to your incomplete folder & view it in list mode & click on size column so all are arranged by size. Now delete all those at 0 KB. This will speed up opening of LW & reduce stress on connections & hopefully your router. But you don't really have that many incomplete files so this step might be unnecessary!!!
You might also consider reducing shared files if you have multiple thousands of them. Good luck. Sounds like your comp is losing communication with your router b/c it's too busy.
