More details please. Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider?
10. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.

footinbadboy April 13th, 2005 07:57 PM

1. Win xp
2. Zone Alarm... but I have had it a long time and Limewire worked fine till lately
3. 756 ram
4. 80 gig / 57 gig left to use
5. high speed wireless / Adams Net
6. Belkin ( work before with this router) WaveRider modem for wireless, Adams Net supplied.
7. Home
8. 4.8.1 (I have even un-installed and re-installed
9. Adams Net
10. Have use several version Of LW and loved it till now.

I tried to delete the LW file as told in some of the post's, didn't work. I even tried a system resore to a day when I downloaded some MP3's... That didn't work either.

What do you suggest I do now.

Try uninstalling Java using the Add/Remove Programs control panel. Then re-install Java: Fixes for Limewire

Do you know whether your Belkin router can utilitse UPnP technology?

Also make sure your firewalls are configured: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml Make a note that it's not always wise to run 2 firewalls b/c they may interfere with each other.

I did notice that a Java automatic update had taken place around the time LW quit working.

It's same router I have always had and LW worked fine for years.

Also LW worked with ZA settings.

I will try the un-install of Java 1st.

Thanks

footinbadboy April 13th, 2005 08:57 PM

I un-installed Java and both updates in the add / remove.
Then went to www.java.com and re-installed Java.
Still can't connect.
What next?

Help me Mr Wizard

EEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwww.....
Air is going out of my Limewire balloon!

I need a fix.

Lord of the Rings April 13th, 2005 09:43 PM

No you chose the auto update java. Installing over the net can cause issues. Go back to my link about LW fixes & choose the Java installers & save them to your computer & then install them. Reboot before opening LW. Sometimes Java 1.4.2 works better for some compared to others.

Will do

Eye Eye Capt.
I will try again.

footinbadboy April 13th, 2005 10:01 PM

dbl post

Sorry for the double post....
You should kick my newbie butt.

I have un-installed Java again and am downloading the 1.4.2 file now, but it's taking awhile.

It's late and I may finish this up tomorrow.

I will post you on how it works.
Thanks again.

bummer

I went to site you previous post suggested, but version JRE 1.4.2 and JRE 1.5 aren't an option there. At least I couldn't find it.
All I could do was download J2SE 5.0 update 2. Java works fine, but no go on LW.

I do think my problem began when my computer auto update Java.
why wouldn't system restore to a prior point not fix this?
And if java is the culprit, when will LW have a fix?

I'm off to bed, will deal with this tomorrow.

Try again: Fixes for Limewire

footinbadboy April 14th, 2005 04:13 PM

Can't find file

The file you say to download (jre 1.5 or jre1.4.2) isn't available on the link you sent in the above post. Please send me a direct link to the download.

footinbadboy April 14th, 2005 04:36 PM

didn't work

I found the file j2re 1.4.1 and installed it.
LW still won't connect.
Any other suggestions?

Lord of the Rings April 14th, 2005 07:56 PM

Well I tested those Java links & they work fine.

Here's another fix: A Fix for those whose ISP's block Limewire pages 1 & 2 which has a link to alternative instructions.

P2P is Dying

I have tried everything mentioned.... Can't get a proxy to work either.

Am I too dumb or is file sharing dying?

I may pawn my mp3 player..... waaaaa

My next recommendation then is to forward (open) a port on your Belkin. You will need to follow the steps very carefully in the order I list them. Most difficult is the 1st one. This is where most people make errors doing this.

1. Set up a Static ip address.
2. Forward port 6346
3. Manual port forward instructions & sample image & 2 posts after that.

For steps 1 & 2 see http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm (you didn't give me a model no. so you can find it) & you will find Belkin listed on far left column. Follow link for your model & set up a static ip for your model & the link at bottom of that page to finish the setting up of a static ip process. Then forward a port.
