cant connecT!! i cant connect to limewire and it is not a firewall problem i closed them all my friend said it is a networking problem can someone help me with this? |
Did you try this: Fixes for Limewire Can you give us a total desciption of your set up: 1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) 2. What firewalls you have? 3. ram? 4. Hard Disk space available? 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? 8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 9. Who is your isp provider? 10. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. |
1. windows xp 2. no firewall opening 3. 504 mb 4. 67.9 gb sapce left 5. dsl 6. linksys BEFSR41 v2 7. home 8. limewire 4.8.1 pro java1.4.2_06 9. i dont know 10. it used to work for me b4 but about 3 months ago it started having this connection problem |
anyone help me? |
So did you delete your LW preferences folder? Try manual connect ... Tools>Options>Connections & untick & apply. Then File>Connect. Wait 10-20 mins after opening LW before connecting. |
it still doesn;t work |
1. Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue! 2. After opening LW wait 10 to 20 mins before using. Let it settle down 1st. 3. Don't use the Resume button on all incomplete files. This has side-fx & can affect LW's connection quality. This will also stress LW & your comp. If you use Resume/Find sources then just apply it to a couple or so at one time. 4. Go to Tools>Options>Connections & untick connect on startup & press apply. Then go to menu File>Disconnect, wait a minute or so & then go File>Connect & wait many mins to give it a chance to connect. 5. Make sure your firewalls are properly configured to allow LW full access: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml Also did you try uninstalling Java 1.4.2 & upgrading to Java 1.5 It works for some but not others. See 1st link above for java. Install it from your computer not over the net. |
none of this is working and i dont understand the limewire firewall page |
Some alternative explanations: 1. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=33233 2. Setting Up WinXP Pro FireWall |
http://img248.echo.cx/img248/9089/452523522fb.th.jpg this is wat happens when i try to open port thru firewall edit: damnit im now stuck at connecting it just keeps showing connecting nothing changes |
could it possibly be a router problem? |
It's either the java or router. 1st try updating your java to 1.5: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp (take the JRE) If it still behaves the same then perhaps you should try manual port forwarding. The steps are: 1. Set up a static ip (very important for it to work!) 2. Forward a port (use port 6346) 3. Set LW up for port forwarding: Manual port forward instructions & sample image & 2 posts after that. For steps 1 & 2 I can give you 2 links & you find & choose your Linksys model: (A) http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm (B) Linksys Support instructions |
http://img17.echo.cx/img17/7590/dafa7qv.jpg its stuck like that now |
So did you configure the XP Firewall? If it was working 3 months ago & suddenly stopped working & deleting the LW preferences folder didn't work then it looks like your ISP Provider has put filters in place to stop you using p2p programs. This is becoming more frequent nowadays as isp's deal with heavy net traffic. Suggestions: 1. try a different port for LW. Go to LW's menu Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls & change the listening port to 80 & press apply. Then close LW & re-open. 2. Try a proxy: A Fix for those whose ISP's block Limewire pages 1 & 2 which has a link to alternative instructions. Another Insight proxy solution http proxies A Successful http Proxy Solution |
it cant go past Connecting.. now wat should i do |
help plz |
Did you configure your firewalls to allow LW full access for both TCP and UDP. It appears something is blocking LW from connecting fully. Normally this is a firewall, but if you manually forwarded your ports did you do it correctly as the instructions from the links LOTR posted above. Also who is your internet service provider? That is the company that provides your access to the internet |
Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www.grc.com/port_6346.htm (Press Probe this port button) Does it say open or closed? If it says Stealth then you might need to work on your firewall. |
Cannot connect Running an eMachine w/Athlon 2.12 Ghz processor..XP home and 480 megs ram. Use cable modem w/router have disabled McAfee firewall and told it to trust LW address. Have also disabled AOL firewall. Still get Unable to set up a port (yes I have gone to tools>options>advanced) and there is no option for setting a port there. After deleting LW preferences I get a connecting signal but never a connect. |

Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say ‘Your test worked!’. What happens when you go there? |

012345789: Did you forward a port on your modem-router? Did you configure your firewall? Try uninstalling your Java & updating to Java 1.5 (take the JRE) But DON'T install Java over the net! Save the Java installer to your comp. & then install it! ;) :) |
