connection problems

I have had line wire for awhile now but have always had problems with it. I can't connect most of the time. I have gone through all the posts and tried everything! The odd time it will connect but other than that not at all. It just says it's connecting and doesn't do anything after that. Any help would be great!!

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider?
10. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.

11. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

* Have you configured your firewall properly to give LW full access (highly unadvisable to have 2 firewalls active b/c they can interfere with each other.)

* Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Fixes for Limewire

* After opening LW wait 10 to 20 mins before using. Let it settle down 1st.

* Don't use the Resume button on all incomplete files. This can have side-fx such as affect LW's connection quality. This will also stress LW & your comp. If you use Resume/Find sources then just apply it to a couple or so at one time.

* Don't try to downld more files than you can handle at one time. Any file that goes into Queued mode means your LW is too busy to handle them!

* If you have people uplding from you then your search & downld results will improve dramatically!

What are your antivirus and firewall programs? (name them). Do you connect at home, work or school?
