Direct Connect Problem

Whenever my friend enters my IP address in the Direct Connect section, his library always comes up. He is unable to access my library. I don't understand what is happening. I am able to access his library when I enter his IP, but he is unable to access mine. I don't believe it's a problem with either of our firewalls because we are both able to download other files. Does anyone else have this problem? What do we do?? Help!

Probably b/c he is entering his own ip no. & not yours. I've heard of that happening before. Though I haven't been able to replicate it personally. So make sure he enters your ip no. Another way you 2 can connect is if he searches for a particular file that "only" you have. He can then browse you. Once he has browsed you he can get compare your ip no. to check to make sure. If you can browse you can often DC also. Make sure he has chat enabled.

My friend assures me that he is indeed entering my IP address. He still gets his library. And he tried searching for a file that only I have, but he didn't even get one hit, which is strange. Anyone else have any suggestions?

Get him to do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image Is the result True/False? If false then he has a firewall issue.

Yeah we both did that earlier. It was "True" for both of us. There's no firewall issue in play.

DC is not always the easiest thing to do. There can be many factors. But your situation is a bit odd. It's really hard to know or should I say guess when you haven't supplied much in the way of details of your set ups. Other members would also be at a  without some info. Anyway I'm off line till later.

Details like:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is isp provider?
And any other details you think might be relevant (or not. lol)

Oh a late thought ... you could create a Magnet link for one of your library files & email it to him. Right-click the icon (under the '?' column on the far left) of any of your library files & select Magnet details for file. Then copy the info in the Magnet box. Send that. He can type it into his browser address bar. Then he 'should' start downlding your file. Once he is downlding from you, he can browse you. He can then try DC after that.
