Connection consistently killed by loading LW

The problems is that when I load up LimeWire my internet connection is killed before LW properly opens, and cant load a net page or reconnect properly until i restart.

I have a dial-up connection, which I am lucky to have all considering where I live in rural Australia. And I am running Windows 98 SE no firewalls or anything like that. I've run virus scans and spyware scans of all sorts but nothing is detected.

I have been successful 1/10 in connecting to LimeWire and when does it searches and downloads fine which shows it is possible to connect however if I leave it for 2 hours unattented LW dispalys a message saying I have lost my connection. which is another LW issue I have.

I have tryed the suggestion of deleting the .limewire preferences folder with no luck. And have searched around the forums only to find topics similar to this problem started only to find them cut short or incomplete.

I am fairly new at this so if anyone has any thing about either of this problems any help would be much appreciated.

1. Reduce your incomplete files; Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue!

2. After opening LW wait 10 to 20 mins before using. Let it settle down 1st.

3. Don't use the Resume button on all incomplete files. This can have side-fx such as affect LW's connection quality. May queue your files for much much longer. This will also stress LW & your comp. If you use Resume/Find sources then just apply it to a couple or so at one time.

See if the above helps. Make sure your Java is up to date. I'd suggest Java 1.5 if you don't have it already. Uninstall the previous version, then downld the new version & save to your comp (don't install over the net!) Then install the Java. You can get a link from here: Fixes for Limewire
