Please help! Can't Connect

I have never been able to connect. I have Windows XP, have turned the firewall off, Java is updated, and there is no firewall on my virus scan. When I do the test at www3.limewire.com:6346/ I get the 'page cannot be displayed' message. I have set up a static connection and did the thingy to forward the port on my router which is a Netgear.

It is not my ISP. A friend with the same ISP is using LW just fine. The only difference is she has Windows 2000 and DSL. My connection is wireless.

What else can I do???

Xcuse some of the repeat questions but this is a standard list:
Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider?
10. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.

Use only one firewall! 2 can interfere with each other! To configure for LW see: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

Try this test & try other port no.'s, what you do is type the port no. in & press the jump button & then press the Probe this port no.: https://www.grc.com/x/portprobe=6346

Wireless sounds it might be an issue. Please specify the brands & models of each specific device. And are you connected on a network?

Thanks for quick response!

1. Windows XP, home
2. Just windows firewall which I configured to accept Gnutella at port 6346 tcp & udp
3. (Hope this is right) 961 MHz, 448 MB of Ram
4. 60 GB available
5. connection is DSL
6. Modem is Conexant SoftK56, Router is Netgear wireless router MR814 v2
7. Connecting from home
8. LW 4.8.1 Java 1.5.0_02
9. ISP provider local wmtel, called them said they do not filter anything
10. This is my first attempt. Downloaded yesterday.

And I am not connected on a network. And when I did the probe port is said Stealth.

You said you forwarded a port but are you sure you set it up correctly & your ip is definitely static. It must be static else it won't work. For directions see: http://www.portforward.com/netgear/mr814.htm & also Netgear support for MR814

After setting this up or at least checking the set-up, re-do the original port test: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'

Just want to make sure I did it right: on the port forwarding page for the router, what do I put in for the Server IP Address??

Your computer lan IP, that should be something like 192.168.1.100. I'd reccomend you getting a static lan address first: http://www.portforward.com/netgear/mr814-dhcp.htm

Also note that a router usually let Gnutella connections... Your problem is either the Windows XP firewall or another firewall or antivirus. Look in those is they are configured to let limewire access the internet. Limewire uses by default port 6346.

Ciao
