cannot connect through anonymizer I have gone to options and set it to use the correct proxy. I have tried all three available settings (socks4, socks5 & http) and cannot connect under any. I did a search of the forum for anonymizer, and found a few suggestions of getting it for security, but no mention of how to make it work. I have Anonymizer Total Net Shield 2.04. Thanks. |
AFAIK with proxies you need to keep trying different no.'s & be patient! See these: 1. A Fix for those whose ISP's block Limewire pages 1 & 2 which has a link to alternative instructions. 2. Another Insight proxy solution 3. http proxies 4. A Successful http Proxy Solution |
cannot connect through anonymizer Thanks very much, Lord of the Rings, but I'm beginning to suspect that open file sharing is inherently inconsistent with anonymizing: you cannot be anonymous while allowing a server access to your drive. This is only a suspicion, but it is based on having read all the posts you linked me to, and then doing a bunch of experimentation. All of the posts are discussing what might be called "open" proxies - in other words, proxies that aren't examining each and every connection and approving it based on some security criteria. Total Net Shield IS doing that. I discovered that I can't use any port Anonymizer is using, and if I just pick a random port, LimeWire tells me I'm not connected to the internet. But then I discovered I can create "listening ports" in the Anonymizer program. When I did that, and then set all the appropriate settings (firewall & proxy) to that port, here is the error message I get from Anonymizer when Limewire tries to connect: "SSH Session: Server rejected our attempt to open a client-to-server forwarding channel - reason: SSH_OPEN_CONNECT_FAILED, description: Connection refused." What this seems to say is that I figured out what I needed to do as far as settings go, but the Anonymizer is simply saying "Sorry, Charlie, but you can't do that." I have written to their tech support and will let you know what their reply is. In the meantime, does anyone know of anyone who is using LimeWire through Anonymizer and how they're doing it? In fact, it does seem to make sense that it would not work: if you have to give up enough information about your identity for an outside server to be scanning your drive, you cannot possibly still be anonymous - and this is why Anonymizer refuses the connection. Does this sound wrong? |
cannot connect through anonymizer Surprisingly enough, I got a reply from Anonymizer tech support on a Sunday morning, yet: Dear Customer: I am sorry however we do not support p2p programs at this time. Anonymizer Support Thank you very much for trying, but it's worth noting for future questions you might get regarding Anonymizer, especially since I have seen at least two posts that recommended using it. As of 6/12/05, you cannot use LimeWire through Anonymizer. Thanks again. |
deepblue was one of those who suggested anonymizer. deepblue is a regular on the forum so you could try sending deepblue a pm to ask if he is aware of how to go about using it with LW or an alternative. Steganos was another he suggested. I know nothing about these programs. But do you need to be annonymous. Why not persist with using proxies. I have been told you need to keep trying different proxies before you'll find one that works. |
re: Any update regarding Total Net Shield AoG? or anyone? |
