Linksys routers usually use UPnP. The question is whether your model does or not. Do you know? If it doesn't then you may need to forward a port. See if you can find out about this. I just googled & found this: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,11331295

& I suppose this: http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/Secti...le21-page4.php

Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); config instructions: Firewall configuration instructions

Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

When you open LW, leave it for 20-30 mins to see if it will connect.

still not connecting

I tried the test but no luck I got the "page cannot be displayed" error. My linsys router does use UPnP and it is enabled. Maybe this will give you a better idea of what my problem is.

thanks again

If you can't reach the web page then that suggests something is blocking you.

Let's 1st try a different listening port for LW. Go to LW's menu Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls & change the listening port no. Let's try different ports to see if any of them work. Try these one by one: (a) 3500 (b) 1203 (c) 20282 (d) 80
Then see if that has any effect. Don't forget to press apply after adding each one to try. I'm not sure whether you should also try re-opening LW after each change. If not, go to menu File>Disconnect, wait a minute & then go back & select connect. Give it a good 10-15 mins to connect.

If none of the above helps then see below:

I wonder if your router is not utilising UPnP properly. I suspect if you forward a port manually, then you'll overcome your problem.

Most important is the initial setting up of a static ip, which is where most people go wrong.

I can give you a links to 2 sites so that you can double-check your settings as you go thru it.

1. Set up a static ip: (a) Setting up a Static IP Address with the Linksys WRT54G v1.1, v2 & CA
(b) Linksys support

2. Forward port 6346 using these instructions: (a) Linksys WRT54Gv1.1 (b) Linksys support

3. Within LW: Manual port forward instructions & sample image & 2 posts after that.

maybe you can give me more help

I tried changing the listening ports with no luck. I already had a static ip setup and I forwarded a port to 6346 manually. I still can't connect. If you have any thing else that would be great.

thanks
