Using 1.7, can't get a connection...tries but dies OK. I used to use LimeWire not sure which version - but last week my hard drive crashed and was replaced. SO, I installed version 1.7 but it is not connecting. It shows each address as "Connecting...", but then that just drops off and it goes to the next one in the list until it's tried all 5 or 6 and then gives up totally. I am not connecting with a proxy or at a University, but I am behind a firewall. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I did read the FAQ but it doesn't address this specific problem. |
I have the same problem for connections Hi everyone, I also have the same problem in connecting. I am using a firewall (BlackIce defender) and can rarely get a connect while using the firewall. It only works if i turn my firewall off, which I do not like to do as there are so many script kiddies out there trying stuff. Is there any way I can make LimeWire work through my firewall? I wouldnt like to explicitly allow all traffic on port 6346, and unfortunately the user interface of the firewall doesnt allow me to restrict the access only to a particular protocol and program. There may be a solution by manually modying the rule set, but I am looking for an easier fix. Hope I get a response to this |
Firewalls... Hi Guys, Well I just downloaded and I cant connect at all, it tries to connect but nothing happens, if anyone can help please do! As far a firewalls i concerned, download a firewall called doorstop, you should find it at www.download.com, once you have it add a new tcp/ip service with the port number on 6346 and name it anyway you want. Then you just click the "Allow all access" radio button on the firewall interface :) Good luck! Mac G3 L.M.1.7 |
i have tried i have windows 2000 lime 1.7 it tries to connect but nothing happens why why why why why some one please help please please my life depends on it |
same thing Got the very same problem. - Behind firewall, but with version 1.6b, it worked well without any special setting - Windows 2000 sp2 - JDK 1.3.1 - Limewire version 1.7 When installing, I just clicked the default values. So everything is standard for this installation, and the very same "installation procedure" worked for version 1.6b. Max. |
new info Mostly strange : sometime, LimeWire finally connects to hosts, I can monitor what other are searching and I can search myself, but after a few seconds, all the connections simply disappear the the disconnect button switches to connect. So seems like LimeWire IS able to connect but not able to maintain its connections... |
Can't Connect I was running 1.4 and it quit connecting the other day so I loaded and 1.7 and also cannot connect. It tries and then quits. I'm running win98 w/ Symantec Internet Security Firewall but it worked with the firewall before the other day. Oh well, I guess I'll have to try Bearshare. |
by the way, router.limewire.com does not reply to pings... Sorry for sending so many posts, am ust trying to give as much info to the limewire guys who will be looking at this... |
Just to chime in here, we are not certain why these problems have all been popping up with 1.7, as we did not modify that section of the code significantly at all. We are looking into general connection issues, however. We are also working on a change to the network infrastructure that will dramatically increase the number of search results you will receive while simultaneously reducing network traffic and improving the ability to connect to the network. In short, my apologies for the current frustrations, but I assure you that we are working very hard on some changes to the network that we really think will surprise you. The information everyone has provided has been helpful, and keep it coming in. We should have this fixed in the next release. |
For some reason, today I am able to connect properly. Everything works as usual... BTW, LimeWire guys : If I have a connection, and the I go to groups and double-click on a group to get the group members list, then I loose my connection automatically. I hope this helps you find a solution for these strange behaviours. If you need any user inputs or tests "realworld", just let me know at maxime@zerobase.com . As a java network developper, maybe I can help you ! Jeep on good work guys ! Maxime. |
After upgrade 1.7 has no connection I had 1.6, 1.6b working fine. I upgraded to 1.7 and I get no connections. I have reviewed the FAQ but didn't see anything that addressed this problem. thanks. |
Am having the same problem-- I upgraded yesterday, and it actually worked fine last night, but today I cannot connect. Suggestions? jabivey@aol.com |
connection problems I am having the same problem as everyone else and I am slightly frustrated that the Limewire developer that posted a message did not post an sort of solution to help us. Does anyone have any ideas? I have been unable to connect for over a week now and it is kind of frustrating. |
When I upgraded to 1.7 it worked for some time but now I have not been able to connect for 2 days at all. Will any one be addressing this problem? There does not seem to be any solutions on the trouble shooting FAQ. |
also can't connect I was connecting fine on Oct. 2, but today (Oct 4) can't connect. On the connections page, the connected hosts (router.limewire.com:6346, etc.) status reads "connecting..." for 30 seconds or so, and then disappears. I've got a G4, OS 9.0.2, on Cable with NO firewall. I'm running Limewire 1.7, which has worked fine until a couple days ago. |
I just DL'd the 1.7 version and can not connect at all. It cycles through all of the hosts and then craps out! help please!! |
I think they're having problems on their end b/c in the past 1 1/2 days, I connected once, but like there wasn't that many servers that I could connect on. I hope this'll be fixed soon. Joy |
I have 1.7 and for the past two days cannot get on. No reason to get mad, I'm sure this issue will be worked out. For you guys that depend on it, you need to go outside more often. |
Connection Problems I am also running BlackIce Defender and LimeWire 1.7 will not connect at all. I am not about to turn off my firewall, so I await a reply from someone on what to do to get this program to work. |
Limwire 1.7 No Connection due to Mcafee's Internet Filters Hi Are you using any Internet filters like e.g. Mcafee provides? After I turned off the Java and active x filters in Mcafee Limwire instantly connected! yiippie!! Cheers! Trulladischrulla |
Possible Solution... I've been experiencing similar problems, and have a couple of theories. So far I seem to be having success. First off, I am running Norton Personal Firewall (which is set to deny all external access), and am on a cablemodem, so I'm behind at least 1, and probably more firewalls. These do not seem to be causing any problem (at least the problem doesn't go away when I turn my firewall off). Second, and this is pure speculation, it seems to me that the hosts listed in the "AutoConnect Hosts" box may not be responding correctly, producing the eternal "Connecting..." and the connected, but immediately drops off problems. The one saving grace I found was the discovered hosts section. I was lucky enough to have some discovered hosts added durring one of the short periods that I had a connection. I then selected all the discovered hosts (click on top one, shift-click on bottom), and hit the "Connect" button next to them. This will force LimeWire to try to connect to all of them. This got me up and runnig in a short period of time. Many hosts still either failed, or dropped off quickly. I believe this to be possibly due to variations in internet traffic, which causes the data packets to take different routes, and take long enough for LimeWire to give up on them. As a result, I would still get wildly varying availability of hosts, and would occasionally still lose all connections. So what I did then was watch the "Connected Hosts" window, pick the hosts that listed the highest numbers of other hosts connected to it (the "Hosts" column) on the far right, and added their ip address and port to the AutoConnect Hosts list. I added about 10 or 15 hosts (unfortunately, there is no cut and paste, so you have to type them in manually--this would be a great thing to add, developers). These hosts will now be polled automatically every time you launch LimeWire. It can still take a minute or three to start getting good (or any) connections, but once it finds some good hosts that aren't too far away, it works great!! I now am routinely getting 8-32 TB available, 1-4 Billion Files, and 1-4 k hosts! I hope this works for you guys! Let me know! |
