Do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image Is the result True/False? If false then you have a firewall issue.

Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider?
10. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.

Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

You should not have 2 firewalls active. Windows XP has its own firewall. So disable XP's firewall by going to the control panel, double click on Windoze Firewall, check the disable box.

Do this test again: Bug Report instructions & sample image Is the result True/False?

Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Fixes for Limewire

When you open LW again, leave it for up to 30 mins for it to connect. If it won't connect, go to menu File>Disconnect. Wait a minute, then go File>Connect.

Sounds like your firewall or your modem is not allowing you to connect thru port 6346.

*** Your AVG windows free version is an anti-virus program right? This is not a firewall but some anti virus programs can affect things if it is not configured to allow LW access. I don't know about how to set yours up. It seems you 'should' have your XP firewall active after all. I misundertood when you put AVG next to the firewall question.

LW has the ability to utilise devices that use UPnP so it will automatically open a port for LW. But if your device doesn't use Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) then port forwarding may be required. I somehow suspect you don't have the ability to do this.

You didn't answer some of my questions in my previous 2 posts so I'm a bit in the dark at present.

Did you delete the LW preferences as suggested?

Click on the links I gave above. They are the ones that are underlined & change colour when you put your cursor over the top of them. They explain how to do. eg: if you have a look at the bottom of the page of the Fixes for LW then you'll see a sample of how to delete your LW preferences folder. It's actually easier than I put in the image. Once you get .limewire in your search results, you can send that directly to recycle bin.
