| connection problems I recently switched me internet service to a 256 modem. I was using a dial up service. Now that I have switched I cannot connect to LW. I have done the firewall settings posted on their Help website but I have no luck. The error I get is: " The machine you are using does not appear to have an active inernet or a firewall is blocking LW from accessing the internet. Please check your connections ans firewall settings then select Connect from the file menu to connect to LW. " I have gone to my DSL providers homepage and turned off the firewall settings there as well. Is there a place in LW where I can choose to connect to the internet via modem rather thatn dial up as I was when I signed on to LW! I run off of Window XP. PLEASE HELP! |

| Chances are it's related to your new modem/router. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Can you give us a total desciption of your set up: 1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) 2. What firewalls you have? 3. How much ram? 4. Hard Disk space available? 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? 8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 9. Who is your isp provider? 10. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. |

| OK, XP firewall & Norton DO NOT run well together! Disable XP's firewall: go to the control panel, double click on Windoze Firewall, check the disable box. See *Configuring Norton Internet Security & double-check your settings. Your connection type makes no diff for LW official site other than slower connection & related issues. You'll need to read your manual to see if your router utilises UPnP. If not, then you'll need to manually forward (open) a port. Setting up a static ip is the most vital part of this. Follow the instructions carefully or else the whole process won't work! Steps: 1. Set up a Static IP 2. Forward port 6346 & look for limewire under the following page: http://www.portforward.com/english/r...n3300index.htm (includes instructions link for setting up static ip. 3. Within LW: Manual port forward instructions & sample image & 2 posts after that. *** However the fact that your port test worked suggests your router does understand & use UPnP. So try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Fixes for Limewire & try other suggestions in this link! Good luck! | connection problems I GOT IT!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU so much for everything. I went to my Norton Anti virus an saw that there was also a firewall setting there. I was not aware that it even existed until you told me to recheck things. Now I know I have to disable the firewall and the anti virus before connecting to LW! Thanks so much for helping me. Sorry for bugging you! |
