Default Connection Issue

I had a lot of trouble getting Java and LimeWire to install, but now that I finally did I can't get a connection. I run the program, click File and then connect. At that point the program stops responding and all I can do is CTRL + ALT + Delete and end the program.

I use Windows XP: Home Edition
My firewalls are Windows Security (disabled) and Norton Internet Security (enabled)
512 mb of RAM
51.4 gb free space on C Drive
I have a cable internet connection
I am connecting from my home computer
I have LW version 4.8.1 and Java 1.3.1_16
I use Comcast's Cable for my internet

This is my first attempt at using Limewire, and I hope that I can get it to work. Thanks for any help I might get.

Okay, I did something last night (not positive what), but now I can get the first green bar to appear in the bottom left corner. I believe that one means connecting. It doesn't do anything from this point, still, but at least it doesn't freeze with every use now. Any ideas on what I can do from here? Thanks again.

Unhappy ****

Mine's doing the same exact thing your's is. What the hell am I doing wrong? I used to have it on this hard drive and the harddrive crashed. I recovered it and reinstalled it to this comp and now it wont let me use it. It keeps saying starting connection and I wait. I shouldn't have to let it wait too long cause I have highspeed internet. But I let it sit for an hour and it still said starting connection. First my other computer wouldn't even let me open it like your's did. Now this computer wont let me get past starting connection. I'd like to use it like I did before. >.< I wanna fill my iPod. T.T

Any advice? I know you're waiting on the same thing I am. But I wanna use it. T.T Thanks I appreciate it.

That's an old thread to answer with.

1st try this: Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)

Can you give us a total description of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface?
12. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?
