Can't download files. Please help :-)

Hi all,

I have just downloaded the Limewire 4.9.3 beta and I have noticed that while Limewire will connect to the Gnutella network, I cannot download any files. All files say 'Awaiting Sources'. I have clicked on them and pressed 'Resume', however, nothing happens.

I have checked 'Security Centre' and 'Limewire' is allowed in the firewall port settings.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am using an Acer Aspire with Windows XP Service Pack 2, firewall turned on.

Thanks,
Stu :-)

Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

Do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image Is the result True/False? If false then there's a firewall or something at least partially blocking LW.

See the following link & follow all the off-shoot links to find hints & extra skills to solve your problem: To continue files downlding (click on link) Remember to choose files to downld that have 3 or 4 stars & lots of sources under the # column.

Hi Lord of the Rings,

I tested that thing and it said 'True'. Also, Limewire both UDP and the TCP (???) ports are set correctly in Windows Firewall.

What else can I do??? AAARRRGGGHHH!!! This is driving me insane! I tried to do a complete reinstall and I still can't connect and I lost all my downloads.

Thanks for your help,
Stu :-)

Lord of the rings,

Have many people had problems with the Limewire beta not connecting? When will the final release of 4.9 be available? I can't understand it, I've never had these problems with Limewire before.

Thanks Stu :-)

Apparently the beta 4.9.3 has some bugs. Try the newer beta 4.9.7 I think the final release will be version 5 but it could be a while before that happens. They're still ironing out issues with the beta & trying out new things.

By the way, how did you lose all your downlds? If you use the LW uninstaller (start menu>Programs>uninstall), then it will only remove the LW program & the program folder. Not a good idea to make the LW program folder the downld folder as well. Default location is generally C:\Documents and Settings\"your account name"\Shared

You could also try deleting LW's preferences whilst LW is closed; instructions: Fixes for Limewire

I managed to lose my downloads because I was silly and thought that I would revert back to Limewire 4.2. I uninstalled Limewire 4.9.3 and then reinstalled Limewire 4.2 and when I went to start it, I was given a message informing me that Limewire could not start my old downloads.

Then I did an even sillier thing and cleared all the files in my 'Incomplete' folder.

Thank you very much for all of your help. I really appreciate it.

Stu :-)

P.S. Is downloading TV episodes illegal? Thanks again.
