1. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Can you give us a total desciption of your set up: 2. What firewalls you have? 3. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) 4. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? 5. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? 6. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 7. Who is your isp provider? |

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up: 2. What firewalls you have? I do not know. THis is a new hard drive set up by some one else. 3. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Cable. 4. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Belkin moden and router. Model number? I do not know. I am conneted via a wireless router. Not sure if that makes a differance. 5. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? Home. 6. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. limewire 4.8.1 Java 1.5.0_01 7. Who is your isp provider? I don;t know what an isp is. Belkin I think. attempted connection again.. NONE. Thanks for any help you can give. Becky |
Yep I suspect the Belkin wireless system is probably the issue for you. I don't think Belkin uses UPnP & so you will probably need to forward (open) a port. But to give you specific instructions, i'll need to know your model no.'s of the modem & router. |
model numbers the model number is, at least I think this is the model number, 802.11g for the router and 802.11b for the wireless net work card on my computer. Or its F5D7230-4 for the router and for the wireless card F5D6001. Thanks Becky |
Well although the Belkin F5D7230-4 is supposed to be able to utilise UPnP (Universal Plug and Play), it apparently doesn't work. This can be seen from this article HERE (click on link.) Thus I would think you may require forwarding (opening) a port. Forwarding a port for LW requires 3 steps. The 1st step is arguably the most important b/c otherwise it won't work properly. You 1st need to set up a Static ip. 1. Set up a static ip. 2. Forward port 6346 using Guides for the Belkin F5D7230-4 (instructions for setting up a static ip are included.) And find Limewire on the list when you get to the port forwarding. 3. Within LW: Manual port forward instructions & sample image & 2 posts after that. |
wow.... English please. I do not know how to set up a static ip - or what one is. Nor do i understand anything you just wrote. Thanks for your help - but I need simplification. Becky |
http://www.portforward.com/belkin/f5d7230-4-dhcp.htm gives instructions on how to set up a static ip. BTW, if you're also using a mac networked & if you're also using LW on that comp, then you'll need to use a different port. ie: not use port 6346 but another port such as 6342. Go to LWs menu bar, Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls & change the listening port to something else & press the apply button. Here's some other ports you can try: 1111, 3500, 4008, 1203, 80, 20282, 10000, 443, 40475. You can try that before doing the port forwarding. |
