Did Everything To Connect Except...

-I tried downloading and using the purging program.
-I clicked that link and it said "your test worked!".
-My listening port in LW is on 6346.
-Router Configuration in LW is use UPnP.
-No proxy in LW.
-I disabled XP firewalls. I don't have Norton but I use Avast! I disabled Avast! and it didn't work.

I can connect for a couple minutes (it goes to excellent) but then it will disconnect and not reconnect. The window that says "your machine does not appear to have an active internet connection (it does though) or a firewall is blocking limewire from accessing the internet" pops up...Here is my system info...

1. XP Pro
2. XP's (disabled) Avast! antivirus ones? Again I disabled avast and tried with no sucess.
3. 256 of PC2100
4. I have 2 HDDs a 12G and 80G. One has 6G left and the other has 63G left.
5. 56K
6. US Robotics (hard modem not cheap Winmodem)
7. Home
8. LW 4.8.1 Java 1.5.0_04
9. AT&T Worldnet service

The one thing I haven't tried is to see if my ISP accepts gnutella but I don't know how to tell or what to do about it.

Thanks

Let's see if you can downld a magnet link. Go here: http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml & choose any file to downld. Let's see what happens.

By the way, are you using SP2?

Which model of US Robotics is that? Is that the only connection device ... any other routers or computers connected? Any of those using LW? Are you connecting from home? Which isp do you use?

Thanks for your information, it's nice to have people supply what they can (especially without being asked to.) :)

I clicked on a few, my LW went to excellent connection and it started to download. Only 1KB/Sec though. That seems pretty standard, it happens with songs too. If I get 3 I'm doing good. The files were huge though so I didn't do the whole thing, it would have taken about a whole day.

Don't have SP2

USR 2977

That is the only connection device, only computer

home

ISP is AT&T Worldnet service

Also, something that I've noticed. About 3/4 of the songs I click to download (all have over 10 sources) say "need more sources"?

Anyone?

So you're using a 56 kbps dial up service. That will allow you a total of between 5 to 7 KB/s combined upld & downld. So I'd suggest you reduce your upload speed to minimum or near minimum.

Don't use the resume/find sources on more than one or 2 files at a time. Otherwise this may knock out your modem so to speak. LW won't be able to cope if you resume too many files at once.

I'd suggest trying to open LW & just leaving it 10-20 mins until all incomplete & shared files have loaded & LW has settled down before doing anything. With a dial up service you need to be careful how you use LW.

By the way, you shouldn't need to connect without a firewall. Instead, disable XP's firewall & activate your other but allow LW full access. That is if you have another firewall & not just an AV program. Check your settings on your AV program to see if there are options that allow LW. I've heard of the odd AV program that requires this.
