Limewire closes almost instantly

Hi,

Each time I open Limewire it loads up until about the point the tip of the day comes up, then the whole program shuts down. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, deleting the .limewire folder, and I don't have a repair option.

Here is my information:

Operating System : Windows XP Service Pack 1
Firewall : None that I know of unless my router has a built in firewall
Ram : 256 Mb DDR
Hard Disk Space : 25.7 Gb Available
Connection type : DSL
Router : US Robotics Router model number USR8054. I have a U.S. Robotics 802.11g Wireless Adapter
Connection From : Home
Version : I have Limewire Version 4.9.11 and Java version 1.5.0 (build 1.5.0_04-b05)
ISP : Verizon Online DSL
Attempts : I've downloaded Limewire many times and tried many of the fixes.
Problem Started : I have never been able to actually use limewire, the problem has occured every time I open limewire.

So you tried changing the compatibility mode of LW to windows 2k?

"If" you get the chance, disable the Tips of the Day by ticking the option to not show again.

BTW you do have firewalls. XP has its own firewall, see Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

And also your USR8054 router also has NAT firewall. I'm not sure whether it uses UPnP or not. If not you'd need to forward a port. If it does have UPnP then that won't be necessary. Actually I just checked here & it does have UPnP ability. Let's hope this UPnP works properly (some don't.)

Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

I might recommend you uninstall LW 4.9.11 by going to the Start menu >Programs>LW>Uninstall. Then install LW 4.8.1 instead: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml

Let's see if the problem is with the version or your set up.

Yes, the compatibility is at Windows 2000. Currently, I have my Windows Firewall disabled. When I go to that link the page cannot be displayed. Do you have another link for version 4.8.1 of limewire? I can't seem to find a place to download the older version.

Lord of the Rings July 31st, 2005 09:56 AM

Hmm it seems they have replaced the 4.8.1 version with the last beta release. All I could find was the following links but these come from 3rd party sites & there's no guarantee they are the official LW release. They could be scam versions & could include spyware or even virus. 1. http://www.winark.com/sp-pro2003-23906.html , 2. http://www.dachboden-wg.de/dlm/download.php?id=337

So perhaps we should leave that option out & just work with the new version. I have no answers for the 4.9.11 problems. Most of the old fixes simply don't work anymore. And I have no answers for the people with such problems. :(

Well, I downloaded verion 4.8.1 and it is the exact same problem. At one point, I think it was when I still was trying version 4.9.11 a notice came up that looked like it had something to do with java. The message was:

LimeWire version 4.9.11

It kept on naming files like this for probably about 10 pages worth. Any ideas?

Limewire always closes just as I connect. I changed the listening port to 80 because that was the only one that worked when I went to http://www3.limewire.com:80/. I don't have my Windows firewall enabled. Why does my Limewire keep on closing just as I connect?

Is there some reason nobody wants to help me?
