Program distroying my computer speed

I can log on, start my down load then limewire quality starts dieing. Soon I have a down load with 6 or most host but 0%mb which means it is doing nothing. I have pro but it has mad no difference at all. My computer has to be defragmented everytime I log on because of the constant corrupted files. I has also caused a slow down in my internet e-mail service. It now takes me over an hour to open, read. and delete a message or a couple spams. I have call for support several times from technical and peers. I don't receive any any answers. I feel like I'm out here alone. But after seeing all the cries for help I am not, we just can't share our problems. I have spent a lot a money not only on this program but getting call forwarding, paying both my internet provider and the phone company monthly just to down load 3 CDs. I havent figured out how to upload yet and I have a masive music collection to share. Can someone please answer me. Barbaracampbell@peoplepc.com

I've had problems with pro and couldn't get lm to help. I downloaded WinMX and it works great. On a side note, I figured out my own problem and fixed it myself (port assignments). I switch back and forth between lw and MX because they both have their slow times and when it gets slow on one, I switch to the other.
I too have a massive music collection. Only about 1/10 is on my HD because of space constraints. I guess I have somewhere around 2000 cds.
Anyway, check out WinMX. It's a winner!

WinMX from what I heard is a smaller network & suffers from long queues. But anyway lol :D

I need the program to stop causing frag files
Get Mac OSX & frag'd files are not an issue.
Frag'd files will be an issue no matter what p2p sharing program you use.

I use LimeWire, Bearshare Lite, WinMX, at this time. I have used and tested most of them. If Limewire slows down your PC WinMX will also. WinMx will give you fewer search results but in my experience is better for rare files. You will get gust as many if not more corrupt files on WinMX. You will still have to defrag your computer. You are not having to defrag your computer because of corrupt files. Anytime you download from P2p networks you are DL from multiple host the files are fragmented at the source most people do not defragment often enough. And from what I understand even if they did as you DL files they would still get fragmented due to the fact you are receiving different parts of the file from different sources.
When WinMX first opens it uses about 3 MB of memory which is very Little compared to LW 30 MB but WinMx has a memory leak and within a few hours it will be using, well I have seen up to 100 MB.
There are allot of things that will slow down your computer allot of people blame LW which just isn't the case. LW is memory intensive but so are allot of other things and if you are running LW with other memory intensive programs such as Windows XP, Norton, SpySweeper and you only have 256MB or 512MB of memory then you are going to slow down your performance. Not to mention any spy ware or virus you might have on your machine.

I found my problem. And you were right. It had nothing to do with LW. Instead my internet service. I had 5.8 version they offered an up grade to 6.1 Faster e-mail etc. So I down loaded it. When it was finished I restarted my computer as directed. Tried to log on and all I got over and over "was page not available". Ater 5 days of no real help my my provide I removed 6.1 and reinstall 5.8. Little did I know that the firewall from 5.8,6.1, & back to 5.8 All stayed active. I had 3 different versions of firewall fighting my computer. Deteled the first 2 and I works fine.:) I still have my proble of defrag but I've learned to live with it. Defrag daily...You did explain what caued correpted files. That was important. You have been a great help. Ps My typing is not great. You may have typos. Thank Barb
