Connection Problem

I've tried everything you have said, and I am still unable to connect. Nothing seems to be working.
Please help!

* Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

* Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider?
10. (a) Are you sharing the connection with any other computers & if yes, how? (b) Are you sharing with connection with other p2p sharing programs?
11. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is.

I went through all of the steps in the firewall section and added Gnutella to the list.
When I try to do the test and I click the link, it comes up as "this page cannot be displayed".

1. Windows XP
2. I have Norton Internet Security (I allowed all internet access for LimeWire in my firewall) and I also have Windows Firewall
3. 512 MB ram
4. 171.49 GB available of hard disc space
5. I am connected through an SiS 900-Based Fast Ethernet Adapter, LAN or high speed internet
6. I odn't know any modem & router brand name & model numbers, but I am connected through ResNet, if that helps.
7. I am trying to connect from school.
8. I have LimeWire version 4.8.1 and Java version 1.5.0
9. My ISP is Internet Explorer
10. (a) There are many others sharing this connection but I do not know how many. The internet is provided for everyone living on campus here so it is in all the residencies. (b) I don't know if I am sharing with any onther p2p sharing programs.
11. This is my first try at LimeWire.

Thanks!

I suspect that's the issue. Many schools now block or filter p2p sharing nowadays b/c it compromises their bandwidth which they pay a lot of money for, & it potentially represents (incorrectly) a security risk for them. Either try a different port or try a proxy connection. To try a different port, go to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Advances>Firewalls & chenge the listening port to one of these (try each one): 1111, 3500, 4008, 1203, 80, 20282, 10000, 443, 40475. And remembr to press apply button after any changes. Then try to re-connect via the file menu. For proxies, see A Fix for those whose ISP's block Limewire pages 1 & 2 which has a link to alternative instructions.

Do I need to put that same number in the "listen on port" box, and click "manual port" below it and put the same number there, as well as in the box "port" under the advanced>proxy tab? And will any proxy number from a Yahoo search work for this?

Initially use just the listening to port option box. Then if you're trying to use a proxy consider the other options.
