Default Limewire:-The ongoing problem...((Help appreciated!!))

In order to make this post less convoluted and complicated than it should be, It will be written as a list.

1.Downloaded 4.3.XX. Worked Fine.

2.Upgraded to 4.2.9.Worked Fine.

3.Closed LW for a couple of hours...On trying to restart it, it wouldn't load.

4.Checked these forums, deleted the prefs folder, still nothing.

5.Started PC today, Limewire starts up with a four Bar connection speed... yet only two files begin downloading. After a few minutes, the 'Your computer does not have an active connection...' error. Strangely, these two files continued to download.

6.Checked Firewall, nothing.

7.Checked Ports, nothing.

8.Uninstalled, Reinstalled, Now I have an 'excellent' gnutella connection, yet only one file is downloading. ( I do not mean one at a time. That file has now finished, and now everything needs more sources)

N.B. I have also noticed that while the files were downloading, Limewire still reported that 0Kb/s were being transfered. I can also still successfully search for files and people can upload from me.

I am running:

XP with SP2
Athlon 1.8 Ghz
2Mb Broadband via BT-Yahoo.

Any suggestions?

Starting at 2/ upgrade to 4.2.9??????

Hmmm We are now on 4.9.27 although many users are still using the old 4.8.1

can you confirm your version in Help>about (i think ... I' a mac user)
and if it is a recent version .. 4.9.xxx try preferences/options>view>popups> tick square box beside "revert TO default".... DO NOT click big bar saying restore defaults!!!

If no good come back ... with your version number

Meh, my typo. 4.9.27

This hasn't worked.

Not sure whether or not this could bare any relevance, but Limewire first stopped responding after I deleted my FireFox history. Whether or not this is relevant I don't know, but I thought I'd mention it.

Well this is one that I have had something similar to. But there was one Major difference like yours it said I did not have a connection and files were still downloading #5. But I never had the problem of limewire not starting #3. And Limewire worked fine after the connection issue. There is one thing you might try but if you do it you will loose all of you incomplete files.

First move all of the files you want to keep to another folder out of LimeWire. Now uninstall Limewire search your computer for any remnants of limewire IE start/search/files and folders type in Limewire. Delete any files that say limewire.

Now edit your registry IE start/run type in regedit into the run box. Search your registry for anything that says limewire delete it. I do not recommend doing this if you are not sure of what you are doing if you delete something in your registry that you are not supposed to you can mess up your computer.

I see you are running XP before you try any of the above try doing a system restore pick a point before you had a problem with LimeWire. You will have to reinstall the newest version of LimeWire and see what happens.

I have a feeling something has messed up your setting or part of LimeWire has been corrupted some how. I do not know that any of the above will help and it might be advisable to wait and see if any of the other LimeWire members have any Ideas before you try these repairs.

New problem...

I can't delete the LW files from my prefetch.

Apparently they're being used by another person/program.

No, LW isn't running.

Ignore that. Save double posting, Ill put it here.
Cleared my registry and everything LW related, works like a charm.

Goodbye Bandwidth!

Cheers for your time and help everyone, Its appreciated!
