Please help me !!

help!! limewire has been connecting to the network for hours. searches bring up nothing. I have no green bars. I disabled my firewall(winxp), yet limewire still detects it. Can anyone help me

dont disable your firewall for too long make sure you re enable it after your exit Limewire. check to make sure you are indeed connected to the internet when on Limewire. Hangups usually mean you are not connected to the web correctly. If the bars dont lightup then its your connection somehow.

i have the latest version. just downloaded today. I opened two ports for gnutella just as the help section prompted me too. i just completed the process described in the 2nd and third posts above, still nothing. i believe i am connected because when you first run lw there a window that talks about firewalls and lw trying to contact the network to detect if the firewall is up. no problem there. also, i can get to this forum through the lw user interface, so it must be conected to the net. I am not very comp savvy though, so once i think i know what i am talking about it usally turns out i am completely wrong

Did you do a XP SP2 update just recently? That might help to answer why you're having difficulties. It's caused many people problems. It seems to have changed settings & registry settings. Also, SP2 reduces simultaneous connections so best to apply this patch to increase them: http://mitglied.lycos.de/lvllord/download-mirror.htm

Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up (a standard set of questions!):
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
12. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?
