Bug in Update? - Connection issue

Does it not seem a bit odd SO MANY users are having the SAME issue after upgrading? I keep reading the same issue I am having over and over...

4.9.28 - firewall blocking (Even when the firewall is disabled!) - This program worked fine - had no issues with connecting until I upgraded to 4.9.27 and it continues with 4.9.28....

How about looking for a solution to this problem for us??

I found an old post from 2002 that suggests deleting the .limewire file and restarting the program...that does work but only for that time...once you shut down and go back again the can't connect issue surfaces again... doesn't it just look like a bug that needs to be squashed?

I have tried the solutions offered - exceptions list, proper ports etc....I have not encountered a solution yet and I really don't like having to spend half the evening just trying to connect! I want to spend that time downloading!

Comparatively there are very few people having problems, compared to the total number of users. This is not to say there isn't a problem. But any time you try to improve software there is going to be problems.
There are literally millions of different computer configurations out there using different operating systems, cpu, graphic cards, drivers, antivirus, firewalls, etc. So it is impossible to foresee every possible problem.
As far as why not leave it alone. Every thing can be improved upon. And if we as man kind had used that theory as if it is not broke leave it alone. We would still be living in caves but then again if we did not try to improve things this discussion would have never taken place. We would still be dragging women across the cave by there hair.
Any way as another user says it is just a roller coaster ride, So just hang on and try not to fall off they will get it right eventually. But I hope they never leave it alone.

As one of our favorite tekkies says:

The more we debug it the buggier it gets:D

I am not suggesting "leave it alone" I Love improvement and innovation. I know about the expansive issue of different equipment, software, etc that programers face when trying to improve a product. I deal everyday with industry-specific software that has the same issues...fix one thing, break something else. I just make the request to them - as I do here- don't break those things that we have to use 100% of the time.

I do marvel at the ability of these types of products to work with such a variety of equipment and software and level of knowledge of the individual.

That being said....I still want it to work. I spend too much time trying to get connected...I only have so much free time to do this activity and I want to make the most of that time. When the product works fine and then an upgrade comes along and then it doesn't work fine....to me that is an issue. I know it's "job security" for those that create the program...but eventually you will abandon a product that doesn't respond in the manner in which you expect it to.

sence i updated i cant stay connected either...why i want do keep doing my downloads but it wont let me what can i do its pissin me off

ComputerQueen September 6th, 2005 09:36 PM

It seems many have the same issues....I just love waiting in line - like 137 ahead of me...and finally it's my turn and I can get all the way to 2% and then the connection cuts out.....I have been trying to download a book for 4 days.... it is really frustrating.

Hopefully the next update will be out soon with something that will make us happier! This is driving me nuts! Very little reward for all of the effort and time put into trying to get a file or two.

Hi ComputerQueen

If you still have the old ver uninstall the new one re-intsall the one that worked see if that works, if it does keep the copy and when a new one comes out that works for you then upgrade

I have noticed a lot of Probs with the new versions of most of the P2P programs coming out, not just Limewire.

Now starting to come to the conclusion If It Ain't Broke Don't Fix It

People

As far as I am concerned, this version (4.9.28) has been the flakiest LW release I have come across since I started using this software. I even found that release 4.9.27 was rock-like in its stability compared to this current (disconnect when it wants to) one.

As most have said, whenever you fix one thing you brake another, therefore this version is well and truly broke.

Hi ukbobboy01

Totally agree with you

I've been having all sorts of probs scince upgraded to 4.9.28 am even now getting tranfer interrupted messages, which I never got before, this new ver is Rubbish so was 4.9.27.

Have you noticed it hasn't really worked right since 4.8.1

Also another thing you put in like say artist name and name of the song, then it turns round and tells you Too much Information
WTF is that all about

Well, I did have Version 4.8.1 Pro sitting here...so I reloaded that and I had no problems all evening! No disconnects, no firewall issues - of course the files I have tried to get for the last four days were not available tonight...but at least there is hope now..

LW will be disconnecting - but only because I AM shutting it down.

Hopefully the next version will be a little better than the last two. I normally like to be last in line to do an upgrade - just for all of the reasons we have seen here....I don't know what prompted me to do that update!!!

Thanks for the feedback.
