Partial Conection

My Limewire states that it is connected but when I try to search for files it states "LimeWire is currently connecting to the network. Your search may not return many results until you are fully connected to the network" I am running Win XP Pro with SP2. I have tried enabling firewall and disabling firewall, When I had it enabled I added the two ports, but still had no joy. I am not very computer literate when it comes to firewalls.

That means it isn't connected to any hosts. When you installed LW, did your firewall ask if you want to block/temp. allow/perm. allow LW? If so, what did you click? You need to make sure in your firewall settings that it is allowing limewire to connect w/ your computer. Also, look at the 4 bars at the bottom of the limewire screen. If they are red, you aren't connected, if they are green, you are and you should be able to search.

When I installed L/w I selected the allow option. When I start L/w I get the first bar as green. This led me to think that I was getting something out but nothing in. I've checked my java 1.5.0 but I can't see if I have to enable L/w there?

Does it stay on one bar? Also, you might find out if your ISP is blocking LW.

Brumley September 12th, 2005 10:29 PM

It stays on one bar the first one. And I have contacted my ISP thay say they don't block anyone. I have also tried turning off my firewall. But I can't seem to remove the firewall symbol from from Lw. I am running nortons anti virus, it doesn't seem to have any firewall option to disable.

Try listening to only port 6346. Anti virus is the only Norton product you are using? Check in the firewall section of the control panel, is windows firewall the only one you have? Are you on a wireless connection? If so, you will have to configure the router to allow 6346. Another suggestion is to go under view in LW, and show the connections tab to see what's happening.

Sorry for the delay I was trying to learn about wireless modem routers.
I am using a wireless system. I have set the router to port forward for port 6346. I have looked in connections on lw and there is no infomation. I tried add but I don't know what host to put in.

I have the exact same problem! I dont know why its doing this, i was using bearshare before and that worked perfectly, i didnt have to mess with ports or anything. I have even turned my firewall off completly to see if it worked then, it didnt.
Please help:confused: :(

kurtvoss September 18th, 2005 02:57 AM

I also have a router, but that shouldnt matter because bearshare worked so the ports are not important.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW YEAAAAAA!!!! I got it working! This is the happiest day of my life lol
I dont know what i just did but it was in the space between this and my last post lol, ok heres whatever i did that made it work:

Remove any limewire/bearshare ports from norton personal firewall
Uninstall Java completly
restart
download and install the latest java
Uninstall limewire completly from add/remove programs
restart
start the online downloader and install limewire.

Thats all i know of that i did, and it works! And guess what it says
"Your connection to the network is very strong"
Good luck and tell me if it works for you.
