!!Solution!! to LW Problems!!

If you are not able to connect to LW then try the following:

Uninstall LimeWire. Then Uninstall Java.
Download the latest versions of both the softwares i.e. 4.9.30 and 1.5!!
Manually delete the .Limewire preferrence folder!

Install Java 1.5 first and RESTART!
Install LimeWire 4.9.30/Pro and again Restart!!

Disable any other Firewall software tht u have and keep only Windows XP SP2 Firewall ON!!

LimeWire will start working with highest possible speed i.e. excellent / Turbo-Charged for Pro!!!

This worked for me since Norton Internet Security's Firewall was blocking LW even when I had given 'Permit ALL' to it!!

Dont forget to RESTART!!

GOOD LUCK!!

I tried disabling Windows XP SP2 firewall and enabling Norton Personal Firewall and LimeWire was still working properly!! So cant understand what the earlier problem was but everything is fine by just reinstalling / reseting the softwares and settings!!

It was probably updating the java that did the trick.

Panzer September 22nd, 2005 05:56 AM

Could be the Java only!! But I had the same version before and after so like I said couldnt get to the core of the problem!!
Anyway its working just fine with Norton and I got to say the new version 4.9.30 is just quicker and reliable than the earlier one's!!

Followed your instructions to a 'T' but still won't connect. I've been using LW for ages but since I upgraded to 4.3.29 it won't connect. I've got a laptop that I can connect with that I still haven't upgraded. Any other suggestions?

Panzer September 22nd, 2005 08:18 PM

See u need to only follow my instructions if ur using Windows XP SP2 and Norton Internet Security 2005 !!
LimeWire 4.9.30 is really working fine for me even with NIS 2005 and I got to say its much faster and reliable than any versions before!!

Reset all ur NIS 05 setting and LW preferrences and Java!!
If its a firewall problem then its gotta work my way!!

We are going to need a little more info here it will help us to figure out what your problem is.

Can you give us a total description of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dial up, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?
These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is.

* Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other. http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

12. Do This test, Is the result True/False?

Unfortunately there can be allot of different things that can be causing the problem other than what fixed your problem. The fix you posted has been known for a long time and is one of the fixes that works for bad install which is a problem that occasionally occurs. But there are allot of other causes routers, port settings, port forwarding, etc. IE that is not the only fix for a connection problem.

Thts wht I said Grandpa, I meant if u are using same system and configuration as I do then only it may work my way!!
My problem was unusual though!! LimeWire wasnt working even when I had all the right setting on NIS 05 plus had the latest versions of LW and Java!! Reinstalling the same thing again and it starts working is unusual!!

Plus Warreng has posted some "4.3.29" version of LW so cant understand which ver his talking about!!

Guys must give their whole configuration while posting problems!!

Help out guys!! Firewall detected again!

LimeWire says a Firewall has been detected!! I have configured Norton Personal Firewall 05 to 'Permit ALL' to LW but no use, the new version 4.9.30 Pro is just showing Firewall detected and then a message opens to tell tht 'the machine doesn't have a internet connection or is blocked by a firewall'

This time my earlier solution to the firewall detected problem is not working!!

PLS HELP Again!!
