Firewall problem...

Ok...so my limewire works, but its download speed is damn slow 8KB/s...and it says its behind a firewall....Once i restarted my comp and all of a sudden the firewall is gone, and then the next time i opened limewire, the firewall is back on.

I have tried many things...from getting a new updatted verison of java, and uninstalling...and everythin..but doesn't work....

I have window xp,wireless connection, 256 mb ram, and the only firewall that i am aware is built into XP....

anyone know how to fix this?

:(

Have you browsed through the forum sticky notes? dont turn off your firewall but you may need to config it. The sticky notes should provide the info on how to config. can you dl at all?

ah it works...the firewall is gone...thanks...but whenever i start my comp, the limewire folder in program files always opens.....is that suppose to?

What do you mean do you mean LW starts running. If that is what you mean then with LW open you need to go to tools/options/advanced/system start up and un tick the box that says run on system start up.

No i don't mean limewire....the folder in program files ..which is called limewire...

Grandpa September 23rd, 2005 08:44 PM

What do you mean the folder is open. Do you mean that when you go to C:/Program Files and open it that the limewire program is not in a file. What do you see when you go to C:/program Files. This is something I have never heard of and I am having a hard time trying to understand what you are trying to tell us. Please explain as clearly as possible what you see and where you are seeing.

By the way which fix worked for you.

Well a picture is worth a thousand words and no that folder should mot be open when you open C:/Program Files but I do not know that it would hurt anything.

Could you do a speed test and post the results here so I can see how much bandwidth you have. The link below will take you there.

Download Speed: 984 kbps (123 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 215 kbps (26.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

Ok you should be getting better speeds with LimeWire we will need a little more information this can be a drawn out process so some patients may be required. Some times the answer is clear sometimes not. Pleas provide as much of the information as possible.

Can you give us a total description of your set up:
1. OS version? (Eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (Eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your ISP provider? ( AOL/MSN/Comcast/Tiscal)
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?
These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is.

* Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other. http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

12. Do This test, Is the result True/False?
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...757#post103757 Is the result True/False
