A little more info is needed. especially #6 & #9 your ISP may have started blocking p2p networks.

The link below is a list of providers that is known to block p2p

http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=33712

Can you give us a total description of your set up:
1. OS version? (Eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (Eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your ISP provider?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?
These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is.

* Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other. http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

12. Do This test, Is the result True/False?
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...757#post103757 Is the result True/False

13. Do a speed test post the results here.

i've already setup my router for port forwarding and i know that my isp throttles p2p connections between 5pm-2am. i use LW pro and have done for some time now. it was going good before but just recently i've started getting this message.

my LW works sometimes and then gets disconnected. today it is still trying to connect, 'starting connection', and its been like that for 2hours now. i just tried Ares and that seems to connect and download (a bit slow but atleast its dl'ing).
1. xp pro (sp2)
2. pc-cillin (internet security 2004), windows firewall
3. 256mb
4. 30gb free space on 40gb master, and 10 gb free on 40gb slave
5. adsl (256kb)
6. dse router (xh1169)
7. home
8. LW 4.9.23 pro, java 1.5.0_04
9. slingshot (nz)
10. 1 other laptop (rarely used to access net though). also have ares (p2p), filetopia (just installed - p2p), and abc (bittorrent) but rarely use these. mainly use LW.
11. the test worked
12. true
13. dl-184kb, ul-109kb (using the LA server). dl-234kb, ul-104kb (using Seattle server)

hey grandpa, can you please help

Grandpa October 10th, 2005 09:25 PM

I really do not know why you are not connecting the results to #11 & #12 say you are able to connect.

One thing do you have allot of incomplete files that are trying to find sources when you go on line with LimeWire.

I am currently working long days and I am not able to respond very quickly some times. But I will respond when I can.

maorifulla October 10th, 2005 11:45 PM

hi, thanks for the reply. right now i have about 8 incomplete files. but usually i have none and still its the same as if i have 8. i see its becoming a bit of a problem for a lot of users and hope it gets solved soon. any ideas or suggestions is much appreciated.

Have you checked with your ISP to see if they are filtering P2P networks. Also do the other P2P applications you are using have any problems connecting.

maorifulla October 11th, 2005 11:46 PM

Ares usually doesnt have any connection probs. dont no bout the others cause dont use dem much. about filtering p2p, i think they do between 5pm-2am. but why would filtering make me not able to connect, or disconnect me. even outside of these times i have trouble connecting. is there anyway to get around the p2p filters? it used to go good before. i had an old LW an just recently upgraded to LW pro

Try setting LimeWire to the same port as Ares
