Moved...Now Can't Connect! :(

Heyas...

I've just recently moved to Turkey and immedietly downloaded the new Limewire which I was eager to try on my fast connection. Well the only problem is that I can't try it :(

I have turned off my Windows SP2 Firewall and my McAfee viruscanner which also works as a firewal is also turned off. So it should work...

I just can't connect to the gnutella network...Limewire also says that I have a firewall.

The only thing is that I think that my isp blocks the Limewire port which I tested on my webbrowser(Some have the link a sig) Well anyway... Any ideas??

I've tried to proxy but it doesn't work either... Or maybe I just can't find a good proxy?

Anyway, thanks!

Some stats:

Dell Inspiron 6000
Pentium M 1.86
1Gb Ram
70.5Gb HD
Ati x300 128mb Video Card (I'm not sure how this info helps)

I'm on a 100mbps LAN connection

Speed with a 4 thread download manager:
540kbps download
~200kbps upload

Something like that for the speed. Though the bandwith tests I've taken say around 800kbps...?

I've found a good proxy which I'm trying to use.... A socks 4. Port 1080

It's fast for me. Limewire says that it hasn't detected a firewall. I have automatically port forward on... But it's still trying to connect :(

I tested with my proxy, it works with the port 6346.

Try some other ports: 1111, 3500, 4008, 1203, 10000, 15189, 80, 20282, 22817, 443, 34599, 40475.

ie: LW's menu, Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls & change the listening port & press apply. Then go to File>Connect & give it lots of time to try to connect. At least 15 mins.

Some questions:
1. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
2. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
3. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
4. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
5. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)?
6. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
7. You did the port 6346 test right & it failed? http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

You said you're on a LAN connection, so I wonder if you're being blocked by the main computer. Particularly if you're at a school or business.

Changing your own port won't help. Your only hope is to configure LimeWire to use the Socks proxy in the settings and hope that it works. It is however possible that the admin of the socks proxy prevented connections to p2p networks.

Well as I said I was trying to use a proxy but that didn't really work.... Should I leave the listening port and firewall port default? Or change??

For the questions...

1.)LAN
2.)No modem...Just plug it in wall
3.)In my home which connects to the LAN of a university
4.)Limewire 4.9.33
Java 1.5.0_04 (Just updated using update.exe)
5.)Well it's a university so...the university?
6.)I connect directly into the wall with one laptop. I then have a gateway which I connect to and also which I assume a few other people use...Scanned--16 including me probably use the same gateway
7.)Test fails with direct connection, doesn't with a proxy I'm trying to get to work with limewire

Well...I talked to a friend and he said that our isp blocks the ports which gnutella uses...

Any way to get around that? I try to proxy with socks v4 with everything else at default but it doesnt work...any tips?
