Desperate help needed! So I've just started uni and I use a network to for the internet here. However I can't use limewire or other downloading programs as the network has a firewall. What can I do to get around this? I'd appreciate it so much if someone could offer some advice! Thanks. |
It might be a tough ask since most uni's block p2p sharing nowadays. It might not just be a firewall they use but special program to block or filter out p2p programs or limit the bandwidth. Here's an example of how a p2p bandwidth shaper can work: Bandwidth Shaper Sample - typical of how some uni's & ISP's use it (click on link) ie: giving priority to net surfing & low priorities to p2p sharing such as Gnutella. You can try techniques suggested here but they are not easy & need a lot of patience & you may need to try out many before one works: A Fix for those whose ISP's block Limewire pages 1 - 3 which have links to alternative instructions. |
Thanks alot, I'll see what I can do. If not I'll just pay the £9.95 a month for Napster..... |
You can always buy some UNIX shell account and use MUTELLA / MLDONKEY from it. I think that you can find some good shell accounts for much more below £9.95 that allows you to run p2p software. Or even better: buy some dedicated host for little more. :D |
