connection problem after windows update? Hey gang, I'm bumming...Did a windows update and all of a sudden my limewire won't connect..worked fine before I updated...It says: "limewire was unable to initialize and start, this is usually due to a firewall program blocking limewire's access to the internet or loopback connections on the local machine. Please allow limewire to access the internet and restart." This SUCKS! anybody else run into this and have a fix? Does this with or without my firewall running. Thanks in advance for any advice. IT'S ALIVE!! Ok gang, anyone that has the same symptoms as I, this was the fix...I can't take credit as someone else here posted about updating your java...I did this and limewire is back. I hate microsoft, I've had instances where after doing a windows update my computer was e'ffed up...after I did a windows update this am (it happens automatically on my puter) lw quit working... Hopefully this info helps others.. Steve |
That's good news ... I was about to direct you there and got waylaid by a lot of interesting reading. You beat me too it! For the benefiet of others, was there anything special you did like uninstall Limewire before installing Java ... anything of that kind which any one should be aware of or was it straightforward? |
Well, I'm not very fluent in computers so I didn't do much...I updated windows this am, it dl'ed a few updates..everything was uneventful... This afternoon when I went to try lw it wouldn't go past that little square window...then after a bit it said something to the effect that something was blocking lw from connecting to the internet, probably a firewall...the only firewall I have is a windows firewall from my windows xp..so I turned that off...no joy... So, ruled out the firewall..one of the updates that windows did was something with UPnP...I don't know if that means anything but I just remember that being one of the updates.. So, I uninstalled and reinstalled lw and still no joy...my joy level was very low at this time as I just got dsl last week for my increased downloading pleasure, which I believed was going to be short lived.. So, reading this forum I read a post about someone that uninstalled and reinstalled lw and java and that did the trick. So, I went to java's site and it said that I didn't have the latest java so I upgraded...thats all I really did. Viola!! I was having much more joy as my lw worked... This forum was the only reason I'm back in action so I would really like to thank the person that posted that fix (can't remember his screename)..I hope this info can help someone else running into problems...Thanks again. Thanks for going to the trouble to explain, I believe thanks are due to ag101 who has spent a lot of time on the forums explaining his problems! You can get on with your downloading now:) |
