Default Internet connection

Hi guys, I have a question, I recently moved and have had to change from ADSL to Cable internet and have found cable to be very slow ( its meant to be one of the fastest here in Oz), So I contacted my ISP and they said that the connection was fine, that I either had a virus or a file sharing program, I dont have a virus so I put it down to LW. So I disabled LW on computer start up and now the internet is running fine, why, when I had ADSL every thing ran fine and now with cable its been effected, and does this make a difference to the file sharing community,or is there some sort of setting I could change?

Thanks for your time

Your cable company is detecting your P2P software and they are throttling your connection speed. Some ISP block or filter P2P software. The link below might help to explainer.

You could try different ports they are probably detecting by monitoring known P2P ports I have herd that some people have been been able to get around them this way.
