Unable to "initialize and start" A few months ago i downloaded limewire and it came up and everything, i just couldn't connect. Now, I figured i'd try it again and maybe something had changed. It hasn't. This time, I cna't even get Limewire to start. When i click on the i con i get a message that says "LimeWire was unable to initialize and start. This is usually due to a firewall program blocking LimeWire's access tot he internet or loopback connections on the local machine. Please allow limewire access to the internet and restart LimeWire." I have tried fixing everything i could find online, making new connections and acceptions and such with my firewall. I have no idea what to do now... any help would be amazing. I also have a dumb question. How do i "restart" LimeWire? Thanks |
Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Fixes for Limewire BTW you can't connect because you're firewalled. Either your computer firewall or a modem/router firewall most likely the cause. Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link) Can you give us a total desciption of your set up: 1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) 2. What firewalls you have? 3. How much ram? 4. Hard Disk space available? 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? 8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)? 10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. 11. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? |
I did all of the firewall stuff with the link.... and the test at the bottom worked 1. Microsoft Windows XP 2. As far as i know i only have Norton Antivirus and the Internet Security etc. 3. 2.79 GHz, 512 MB 4. 11.8 GB 5. dsl 6. Linksys Wireless-G 2.4GHz 7. home 8. 4.9.33 9. idk -- i don't really know what that is... sorry i'm computer stupid 10. i have 2 other computers that are also dsl? is that what you meant? 11. my test worked |
I suspect Norton is your problem. Linksys use UPnP so should work fine in most cases (if there's a UPnP switch on your modem-router [Universal Plug & Play] then turn it on.) For a start, go to the control panel, double click on Windoze Firewall, check the disable box. You don't need this active!!! Then, *Configuring Norton Internet Security & I believe this should fix up your problems. Fingers crossed! ;) :) |
