Firewall trouble I am in college and using a secure wireless system by use of a firewall. Can someone please tell me how to allow me to d/l through limewire? |
Most colleges block p2p sharing nowadays or at least filter it. eg: Here's an example of how a p2p bandwidth shaper can work: Bandwidth Shaper Sample - typical of how some colleges/ISP's use it (click on link) ie: giving priority to net surfing & low priorities to p2p sharing. Notice the low priority Gnutella gets. Your request is a complex one. I presume the firewall is under the control of the college. So you'd need to speak to them. Wireless setups for a start have their own NAT types of firewalls. Some people try to by-pass these things by using proxies which may or may not work. A Fix for those whose ISP's block Limewire pages 1 - 3 which have links to alternative instructions. Someone else might have some ideas. :) Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Chances are you can't get the page right? That means the port is blocked. You might try a very low port like 80 or a very high one like 40000 or higher. |
