Default norton + limewire = 0

ok so ive been running limewire for a year or two now and ive had no problems on my other computers that have norton antivirus loaded on them, and ive had limewire on this computer without norton for a few weeks. i installed norton and all of a sudden limewire wont work. i dont mean that it wont connect to the net, it wont initiate or load or anything, i cant pull up the limewire main screen no matter what i try. the message limewire sends me says that i have a firewall blocking its connection to the net but i have windows firewall off and norton antivirus dosent include a firewall function, even so, i put gnutella under a safe port like the help pages say and its still not loading, ive re downloaded limewire once already with no change whatsoever... ive exhausted everything i know about so if anyone is having similar problems and fixed them i could use some help. thanks

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

sparks... without being inconsiderate of your woes, could you tell me where that help page was..."i put gnutella under a safe port like the help pages say and its still not loading"
(I want to learn how to better manually configure my firewall for LW)

Also...I'm no expert on limewire, and this may be a stupid question, but you didn't have limewire minimized to the system tray when you installed Norton did you? Or in startup?
Norton products can be very fickle when installing them, it may have caused the conflict and just a LW uninstall and reinstall may not have fixed it. Does Norton seem to work right?

I may be overstepping my bounds here, but I know a little about Symantec products and their answer to everything is to uninstall and reinstall to increasing degrees, its insane!

If you try to uninstall and reinstall NAV, (I'd uninstall LW first) Norton always recommends doing a "clean boot install" (and stopping all nonessential processes)--they don't tell you that in thier little booklets. Look at...Before Installing Norton Products ---and---No programs loading at startup (clean boot install)

(I found a page before with all of that together, but I can't seem to find it now)

Of course you gotta make sure all the Norton startup services are running before uninstalling, see here.... Enable Services at Windows Startup (just the top of page). (Or just make sure everything in NAV is enabled.)

They also have "SymNRT.exe" which is supposed to remove all traces of Symantec products in the event of a failed uninstall or whatever.

And...turn off firewall when reinstalling.

BTW--it ain't no joke--you can buy SystemWorks and NAV bundled for ten bucks (after rebates) now and then.
Its 'cause Norton kinda bites!

(I realize I'm verbose, I apologize.)

Oh yeah, almost forgot...Sparks can't do #8 on that list-- Lord of the Rings---he can't open LW. He could check his Java version in "Add/Remove Programs" though, that should show Java 2 Runtime Enviroment version and J2SE update version.

Or in the "Control Panel">Classic View should be the Java icon.

Of course you might've already know that Sparks.

I guess I'm assuming he has Windows though.
