no connection

I have just downloaded limewire and i have yet to see it connect. i have tried suggestions given in other forums, but to no avail. My internet connection is through a lan hub(home network.) limewire acts as if i am not connected to the internet at all. it gives me an error message saying that my computer does not seem to have an internet connection or a firewall could be blocking it. i have completely disabled every firewall on my computer. am i missing something?

Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

Port 6346 is being blocked which is why you can't connect. It's your lan/linksys set up that's the issue. But I can't find any such model of Linksys here (never heard of it until now): http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/...p.php&p_tbl=13
Can you find it or any reference to it?

I googled it here http://cgi.ebay.com/LINKSYS-NH-1005-...QQcmdZViewItem
& http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/remark,14643675

It seems it's simply a hub for a network. It's not a modem/router per se. So that doesn't tell me what connection device you use. Unless I'm misunderstanding.

Same problem

I got no connection too. When i click on lime wire 2 start it it comes up with the message "Limewire was unable to initialize and start. this is usally due to a firewall blocking limewires access
to the internet or loopback connections on the local machine. Please allow Limewire access to the internet and restart lime wire."

I have all my firewalls turned off and the port 6346 works for me

1. OS version? WindowsXP

2. What firewalls you have? Windows and Trend Micro

3. How much ram? 1GB 512MB

4. Hard Disk space available? 52.3GB

5. Connection type? cable

6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Linksys
Wireless-G Broadband Router (Model #WRT54G)
TERAYON Cable modem (Modle #TJ615)

7. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p
sharing programs? No

8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to
LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. Can't start limewire

9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)?Adlephia

Commanderkeen I'm not sure about trend firewall but see the firewall config link above & use whatever terms they suggest such as java ... & gnutella/limewire to add to the firewall clearance. Also disable Xp's firewall (go to the control panel, double click on Windoze Firewall, check the disable box) as this may be contributing to your problems with 2 active firewalls.

Make sure any other program such as AV, Adware, Spyware, etc. if they need program clearance, you allow it for LW.

My mistake. I should have clarified. my actual internet type is wireless. The antenna on top of my house is connected to a wireless lan router (nl-2611cb3 plus by netgate) via ethernet. find hardware at www.netgate.com/product_info.php?products_id=31
Because my isp is gay, i have to use a network hub to share internet connection with the xbox in my room. I was suspicious that the hub was firewalling, so i bypassed it and wired the computer directly into my netgate box. this didn't seem to make a difference. keep getting message "computer doesn't seem to be connected to internet."

Hope i made things clearer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

tripj777 I'm dumbfounded. I don't have much knowledge of networks. Perhaps someone else reading this can help. I read the manual & specifications to your netgate device & can't see anything to configure that'd make a difference. Wireless devices by their nature tend to have firewalling. I wonder if the problem is at the other end. Have you asked your isp (internet service provider) why your port 6346 is blocked? Ask them to unblock it for you.

I guess you could try a different port such as port 80 & 64049. Go to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls & change the listening port. Then relaunch LW.
