LW don't run Hi, I downloaded LW 4.9.37 and I installed it. I put LW in the list of my Firewall exceptions. But when I try to run it, it appears a message that says: you haven't an active interenet connection or you have a firewall blocking LW accessing from the internet. I have a wireless connection of a university. My OS is Windows XP (SP2?). And the Firewall is Windows Firewall. The antivirus is the same that they use in the university (McAfee). I have also in my computer microsoft antispyware and spybot search and destroy. I deleted the preferences file but it didn't work. I tried to change the ports but nothing happened. i don't know if it could be usefull to solve the problem but i have installed in the computer Ares and it works. |
Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Lots of universities now block or filter p2p sharing using various techniques. They may have specifically targeted Gnutella/Limewire. Wireless devices generally have their own firewall. This is most often a NAT which acts as a firewall. Can you gtell us the Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Try changing the port no. to one of these (try them all) 80, 427, 22, 21, 10000 or 64049 You may need to close LW after changing I'm not sure. But give each one plenty of time to try to connect. |
I went to that page and the test worked. The information about te modem is Conexant D480 MDC V.92 Where can I find the information about the router? When you say change the port, you mean in: LW tools>advanced>firewall config: Listen on port:... or Manual port forwrd:... or windows firewall>advanced>Settings>... Thanks |
Yes Advanced>Firewalls listen to port x. By default it should be set to UPnP. But that depends upon your connection device & whether it has UPnP capabilities. Oh yes I forgot, I guess you'll also need to make exception in the firewall for any new port you try. I guess you can delete them later if they don't work. The port test for 6346 is good which means it's not blocked. I'm not sure what the problem might be except your wireless device or the uni blocking specific programs. Try the other ports anyway because the default official Gnutella port is 6346. |
