conection question ive been useing limewire for several months now and recently have noticed when i leave the puter to let downloads run on there own. when i leave my downloads are running turbocharged when i return my connection is excellent. then it has to wake up connection. is this something that can be fixed or is it running the way it is supposed to? running xp pro celeron 600 i keep around 3 to 5 gigs available most of the time isp advertised at 384/192 altho after getting cut off one time my isp changed my addy and recent speed test showed 1075/452 (think they made a mistake):D also another question. given my decent upload speed how many slots should i keep open. i share audio and dvd length video files with the majority of the hit being the video files. |
I'll answer the 1st question only, that's normal. Idle mode simply closes off one connection to leave that option open to help others make initial connection to the network thru that ultrapeer. After all, if you're not at your computer then you're not going to be doing searches. And freeing up connections to ultrapeers when they're not needed will help the network overall. LW Basic connects to 3 UP's. Pro to 5. There's some other Gnutella programs (eg: BearShare) that only connect to 2 ultrapeers. As for how you should set up your upload & downld slots according to your speeds, I think Murasame has an on going thread that might be helpful. He's recently returned to the forums to help (now has a little more free time.) http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=27036 However there's also many a member who can help advise in this regard. BTW you can recheck your speeds using alternative speed tests (more options): 1. http://www.t1shopper.com/tools/speedtest/ (choose nearest location) 2. http://www.broadbandreports.com/stest 3. http://www.adslguide.org.uk/tools/speedtest.asp 4. http://specials.zdnet.co.uk/misc/ban...eedtest50.html |
ty lotr. ive read many of your other post and in the past youve answered many questions and provided much insight for me. ive tried to use as much of the info in a post for configuring as i could but some of the technical info is a lil over my head. for being puter self taught i dont do to bad. ive tweaked as much as i could and for an old machine it runs decent. btw. ive tested my speed thru several sights already. its correct. my dl/ul on lw also backs the numbers up. my isp just made a mistake when i got disconnected one time and gave me the addy numbers to a higher speed. lucky me:D well on question down one to go what would someone suggest on the upload slots? ive been running 10 with a limit of 3 per but feel it could be moved up. but i wish to make sure all can get as much as they can out of the connections. just looking for suggestions, thx again |
oh yea btw i already had read Murasame's thread and he does bring a good point about people not know there speeds. b4 i got dsl i thought dsl was just dsl.:D |
